Post subject:  new EP/record within a year??

In this months OOR magazine (biggest dutch music magazine; http://www.oor.nl) there's a short interview with Jeff, not much interesting except the following. He said that they recorded some incredible rock songs that did not fit on backspacer very well and he was hopefull that they will enter the studio again early next year to do some final recording/mixing on those tracks aiming at an new release within a year.

Similar words were already spoken by Mike on several interviews:

Quote:
BM: I noticed you kept the songs very short, very direct, kind of garage-y. Were you sort of reining in the tendencies to make them a little bit more like that?

MM: I think we didn’t initially know that we were reining them in. We had about seventeen ideas going into this project, seventeen to twenty. And when we were at about eleven pretty much finished, Brendan (O’Brien, producer) and Ed sat down and said, “Hey, this looks like a really good record.” Stone (Gossard, guitarist) had been talking about wanting to have a record that was shorter, more concise and I think we achieved that. That being said, we still have other songs that are out there that are from this session that we may do something with in about six months. http://www.rockband.com/zine/mccready_interview

What do you guys think? Will we hear those songs soon??

Normally I would say no, as historically this kind of thing has never happened with this band. But they're also not doing a full fledged tour immediately following the release of Backspacer, so I'd say it's more possible than at any other point in their career.

I certainly hope so. They can call it Caps Lock

Yeah, I think so too. We've heard those things before (avocado outtakes, ukelele tracks) and it never happened. But I believe it could happen this time because I have a feeling that they will do a full European tour next summer (why do just 5 promotional shows and then nothing...), perfect timing for some new material ;)

I'd love to see it happen but I don't think they will, they've said conflicting things about the leftover songs, Ed saying if it was homework then they just scrapped it, Mike saying they had good stuff left over. Now who do you think's gonna win that argument?

wouldn't imagine they'll be in Europe next year either fella..sorry..not by what Ed was saying this summer anyways.

I would prefer ALT GR, more modern.

I doubt it. I read about bands saying this kind of crap all the time and they never follow through with such things.

Springsteen did it. Working On A Dream had a lot of stuff left over the Magic sessions. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as good as Magic.

Yeah, and I have to tell you, Working On A Dream was pretty craptacular.

I agree with this.

Even though it's more possible, I still doubt it'll happen.

Yea, I'd agree. Still, Outlaw Pete kicked a lot of ass when I saw him perform it in Pittsburgh.

Magic was fucking awesome, though.

if eddie's not into it, and doesn't feel like writing meaningful lyrics to the songs, I'd rather not hear them.

Less Than Jake did it a few years back...they talked about putting out a couple of EPs for the leftover stuff from the Anthem album, then put out a full length of those songs (called B is for B Sides)...sadly, it wasn't very good

I lost some faith when Ed said they dropped songs when they "felt like homework".
