that's what i thought, but i noticed the official lyrics at PJ.com say "can."

haha, sure pal.
que?

i always thought the lyric was "can't" then today, to see which shows the song was played waybackwhen i went to the site and actually looked at the lyrics and felt that the "official" lyrics change the song (for me).

they copied the "official" lyrics from fan sites
oh. good. i like the song better w/ can't.

carry on.

There's a whole thread dedicated to lyric mistakes at pearljam.com
i guess i've been doing this internet thing all wrong.

Corduory has some of the hardest lyrics to decipher and I think he switches them up live. Someone somewhere once decided that Eddie sings "I'll take the varmit's path" and that made it to the "official" lyrics on pearljam.com but I have never accepted that as the correct line. If you listen to the 6/8/97 Tibetan Freedom version Eddie clearly says "I'll take the servant's path..."

Really? I always thought it was "I'll take the firmest path..."

your original post is phrased to make it sound like you believe the "can't" version to be the alteration and i thought you were backpedaling.

right, well after seeing the pj.com lyrics i thought "can't" was an alteration, but now i realize it's just another instance of pj.com sucking.

i can never decide if the line starting "everything has..." is better with chains or changed. they're both good.

"everything has chained" is bad grammar and makes no sense.

He definitely says "servant" on Tibet 97 (slow version so the words are pretty clear) but I don't necessarily think that is the original lyric. I think he changes them. It always sounded like "furthest path" to me on other versions.
