Leash, Rats and Green Disease are probably are the only songs I dislike.

I think its pretty good so far guys, nothing to complain about, really.

Riot Act was made just over 10 years ago.
Everything on Lost Dogs was written more than ten years ago.
Into the Wild and Ukulele songs are not PJ records.
Ten is over twenty years old and Vs/Vitalogy written many years ago - box sets are the text book definition of nostalgia.

These were all awful.

More isn't necessarily better. The PJ20 film and those boxsets actually made me think less of the band, I would've been happier had they not done anything.

(I don't mind the inherent nostalgia of putting out a boxset, I just wish they'd actually done a half-decent job of it.)

I feel like I've had this discussion with you before, but do you honestly think these are the same fans? I very much doubt the fans calling for Leash to return are those now complaining about its occasional appearances, for instance.

Pearl Jam fans are a varied bunch. I've argued that they should play shorter shows and cut the old material out of their sets, I doubt that's something that's going to find widespread support.

We might had this discussion before yeah, it is something i ve been noticing in this board since 2006 or 2007...im talking about THIS board..the fans here...if you go to the message pit they seem a lot happier...even in the refuge they seem more confortable with what`s happening with the band...but we can expand this discussion to most of the fans too see what happens too.

Sure, but my point is even the fans on this board have a very wide range of opinions - the fans who want Leash to be played are almost certainly not the same fans who complain when it is, but that seems to be what you're suggesting.

The official fanclub is very heavily moderated and changed in tone quite a lot once they kicked out all non-fanclub members (I can still post there, for some reason.)

:?

That's not such a good idea. New fans and show virgins should have a chance to hear the 'classics'. FYI "Just Breathe" and "Wishlist" are not classics.

I also don't understand how they can be quoted as against the motion that pearl jam fans are overly nostalgic. Even Jeff said in that recent interview that he felt they were becoming a nostalgia band.

He's trying to talk himself into quitting after the Missoula show.

It's more that I don't think this version of the band plays those old songs particularly well. Ed either isn't particularly interested in singing them or his voice has changed so much that he doesn't sound great performing them anymore.

I'm not suggesting junking every song from their pre-Matt Cameron era, only that I wish they'd stick to songs that work well live and sound good when this version of the band plays them. Songs written with a previous drummer rarely sound as good with another - and that's not a knock against Matt, it's just how things tend to be in bands.

As far as bands providing 'new' content for their fans it's not too bad. It looks like a decent mix of new material and previously unavailable archive material. I think it's inevitable that if a band is around for more than 10 years a certain part of their popularity is going to be attributable to nostalgia.

I'd rather hear them play old songs less than perfect than hear BS played perfectly.
