Mike relapsed in a major way from 2000-2002, he even stated once he barely remembers recording Binaural from memory.
He has a tattoo somewhere with the date in 2002 that he kicked everything for good so he's forced to stick to it, it might've been right after Layne died.

I've heard rumours that Ed does a ton of uppers before a show, just to be able to perform, cause of his heavy heroin use. Mix that with the 3 or 4 times per week he does meth, and it becomes understandable. I think the most shocking thing that has been talked about, is Ed's obsession with meatloaf and ketchup, and the fact that he once ate it for 38 consecutive days. Apparantly he's been binging again recently............
of course these rumours could all be bullshit
Seriously though.......I think the "bands and drugs go hand in hand" days are long over for many musicians......it's now about being healthy, and for some, strictly a business/job.

One thing I always enjoyed with PJ (me being someone whos never tried a drug for no better reason then never having an urge too) is that PJ has never really been a band, that is associated with drugs...
But I wanna say I read in an interview sometime just after John Enstwile of the Who passed away, someone in PJ commenting that it really makes you step back and look at what youre doing...
and now with PJ being family men, and seemingly having much love for one another, Id imagine they look out for each other a bit more now... I dont think theyd let Mike go down that road again... (cue Save You) Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I've always appreciated they Pearl Jam didn't use drugs as themes and shit in their music, but knowing that at least some of the band members have had some drug habits at some point makes me wonder what affect it had on their music/writing, despire it not being a prevailing theme.

I think alcohol is the main danger for Pearl Jam, drugs wise. And to me, drugs and Pearl Jam are related in this way: during the 2000 tour I was really shocked/disappointed in how reliant some of the touring fans were on drugs. Not all, but some, and they were pretty wasted the whole time... That's all.
