Hi guys longtime reader of this board. I know this wasn't the smartest thing to do, but i didn't think that Jeff was so high-falutin' that I'd get the response I did when I called his house in Montana. I just looked it up on a search engine and there it was. I wasn't thinking like a "star" and instead thought "Oh, Ill call him up and tell him what a great musical inspiration he's been to me with his Pearl Jam and other works". Well, his mother answered the phone (I think anyway, it was some sweet older lady). I asked if Jeff was there and sure enough he was and he comes to the phone. I'm really surprised at this point, that it would actually be possible to talk to a musician this easy (even though it's not like asking for Paul McCartney or Bob Dylan, etc.). I ask him is this is the Jeff Ament that played bass in Pearl Jam, and he asks, "who is this?". I tell him my name. I'm not calling from a blocked number or anything, and I'm not stalking the guy, so I'm thinking I'm not doing anything weird. Before I can tell Jeff what a great bassist I think he is, he says sternly "It is not appropriate to call this number" and hangs up before I can even apologize. If you read these things, Mr. Ament, I'm sorry. You made me feel like some sort of freak that day, like I did something horribly wrong. All I wanted to do was thank you for being such an inspiration and say that I enjoyed your work very much. I didn't get the chance. If you gave me half a chance, I would have gladly told you how I got the number on the internet without paying any special "search" service for the information, so you could block it for future purposes. Bottom line is that I didn't mean any harm. Thanks for making me feel weird and stupid, and not even offering an avenue where I -could- express my thanks (P.O. Box, agent's name, etc.) I originally wanted to say to you. I really have no desire to listen to your music anymore as a result of all this. Thanks for that, too:(
And yeah me and one of my friends wanted to call Eddie with our guitars and a harmonica and try to get a Smile jam going, but in reality I'm sure that'd just annoy him. I doubt you offended Jeff, he seems like a pretty cool guy. But calling someone's house IS an invasion of privacy.

It is not appropriate to post that in this forum!

Ignore all the nay-sayers, there's a chance I woulda done the same I have Eddie's early 90's phone number in my cell, the one he gave during the radio broadcast in which they play Bee Girl, and I'd be lying if I were to say I havent called it before even knowing it was disabled a few weeks after Eddie gave it out
But like Eddie Trunk said, dont geek out if you have a chance to meet a musician, and I think calling their house counts as geeking out. :/

you should have pretended to be a telemarketer first, to get a foot in the door.

Yeah, you probably over stepped the line. I can't fully fault you for trying though. Years and years ago I found what could have been one of the band's home address. I had a little rush of excitement and even started writing out a letter. I never mailed it and within a couple days forgot about it. I'm glad I didn't, while I meant no harm I'm pretty sure it could have freaked someone out to get a fan letter delivered to their home address (assuming it was indeed their actual current address). That said Jeff is the one member I've talked to, if only for a couple seconds. When I told him I was from Atlanta he asked if I thought the Hawks were ever going to take the next step.
