I really liked the McCartney-Nirvana song too. Paul definitely held his own. What was that song anyway?

Waters was so happy to have Eddie there, it was kinda touching to see a musician as Waters being so exited about his collaboration.
Eddie´s list of collaborations is impressive.

Pretty much sounded like him singing The End, but shakier.

I mean, it wasn't a BAD performance. It just showcased a lot of things I personally don't like about his singing these days.

Just saying some things I've said before:
Spoiler: show
The years of smoking and adopting destructive singing habits have husked his tone to the point where, when he goes for that big rock sound, he sounds sort of muffled or phlegmy. His voice has aged more in the last 13 years than Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, or Neil Young's voices have since 1975. It's not a problem, just a reality. Some people the voice gets old, some people it doesn't. It's a change. So you have to choose between playing to your new sound, letting adaptation create new things for you to do and new stories for you to tell, or living in "you should have heard him back in the day" denial.

His tone now would be great for room sound stomps, dark swirling tracks, and barely-there squeaky-string ballads...if he could cool down the histrionics a bit. It's just a little too packed with dirt and smoke for the type of singing he wants to think that he can still do. He's home now to a voice that sounds like someone who has seen a lot, spent a lot of time thinking about what they saw, made some mistakes, and come away from it a little wiser...which makes it exactly the wrong voice for songs like Comfortably Numb or Mother. I'd rather hear him cover Neil's Bandit, personally.

Really, if he would match the music to his voice better he could be making some of the best records of his life.

I thought he sounded pretty good last night but I agree with your assessment of his current voice. I listened to Backspacer for the first time in awhile earlier this week and the lack of strength in his voice was the first thing I noticed. My biggest fear about the band's new album is that he continues to go for the same sound.

I'm generally critical of his voice and singing on many of his recent performances, but I didn't hear any of those problems last night. He nailed it and even sounded like old vedder in spots. I'm not hearing any more warbling than what he is already well known for. Thank god there was no over enunciation and chin wagging.

Of course , he may have only sounded good because he was surrounded by senior citizens.

Ed sounds pretty fucking good to me. With this and his Bridge School performance, I wonder if he has decided to actually give a shit about his vocal performances.

the previous paul/nirvana wasn't impressive stuff is dogshit. that's your immediate impression? taking them down b/c they played something obscure? how about the bigger picture once in a while? how about holy fucking shit macca is playing a song with the surviving members of nirvana? that's pretty cool, regardless of what song they play. the 4 of them could've played play me by neil diamond and i would've been happy with it. it's okay to like things, even if they're created on a big stage. like what you dig - unless it's that adam sandler thing.

my overall point being, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think.

Just listening to the radio in my car this morning with lots of recaps and phone calls about the show last night.

And, Ed & Roger Waters' performance has been getting a ton of positive feedback - as in, it was the highlight of the show.

I just watched it again, and yup, he really nailed it. As someone else mentioned, a slightly nervous Ed is usually a very good Ed.

For the record, this is the full extent of the negative commentary about the Macca/Nirvana thing in this thread:
