That was a great performance. Listened last night live and listened again today on headphones and can't find a damn thing with his voice to complain about. He sounded awesome.

I mean, it wasn't a BAD performance. It just showcased a lot of things I personally don't like about his singing these days.
Just saying some things I've said before:
The years of smoking and adopting destructive singing habits have husked his tone to the point where, when he goes for that big rock sound, he sounds sort of muffled or phlegmy. His voice has aged more in the last 13 years than Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, or Neil Young's voices have since 1975. It's not a problem, just a reality. Some people the voice gets old, some people it doesn't. It's a change. So you have to choose between playing to your new sound, letting adaptation create new things for you to do and new stories for you to tell, or living in "you should have heard him back in the day" denial.
His tone now would be great for room sound stomps, dark swirling tracks, and barely-there squeaky-string ballads...if he could cool down the histrionics a bit. It's just a little too packed with dirt and smoke for the type of singing he wants to think that he can still do. He's home now to a voice that sounds like someone who has seen a lot, spent a lot of time thinking about what they saw, made some mistakes, and come away from it a little wiser...which makes it exactly the wrong voice for songs like Comfortably Numb or Mother. I'd rather hear him cover Neil's Bandit, personally.
Really, if he would match the music to his voice better he could be making some of the best records of his life.
I kinda agree with McP here. I liked the performance fine, but I couldn't help sit there wondering how much better it might have sounded 10 years ago
To add to the list of where his strengths would be I think he also sounds really good in some of the more ragged rockers for the same reason

Ed sounds pretty fucking good to me. With this and his Bridge School performance, I wonder if he has decided to actually give a shit about his vocal performances.
He seems to give a shit more when he's solo. With PJ, it's more a celebratory, comfortable atmosphere, so he just gets hammered and gets loose. Solo, it's like he's establishing himself as an original artist again.

Probably the reason why I like his solo efforts more than his work with the band over the past 5 years or so.

the first time i heard ed sing corduroy on live on 2 legs i knew he'd could never sing i got a feeling again. sounded like he was singing with lockjaw. anyway he didnt hit the 'iiiiiiii' part high enough in the 'i have become...' line. the rest sounded good. and strat, you dont need context to know if something is horrible. it simply is or it isnt.

His voice really suited the Pink Floyd style, imo. PF had never agressive vocals going too high or too low, so Vedder was more than capable.
