I have nothing for love for this masterpiece of Pearl Jam's and I would like to have a thread specifically for it. Here we can talk about the greatness that is IN HIDING (which I saw/heard live for the first time in Winnipeg last month!!). We can discuss the nuances of PILATE, the awesome riffs of NO WAY, the subtle beauty of LOWLIGHT, the controlled rage that is DO THE EVOLUTION, and so forth. All I ask is for positive remarks about my favorite album. If you don't like YIELD, stay away, or at least make intellegent discussion as to why you don't think YIELD is one of PJ's finest albums.
Also, we have a similar thread going in synergy and all are welcome to join the "YFC" by professing your love for YIELD.

you forgot to mention how awesome brain of j is!
in hiding is prob my favorite pj tune
BRAIN OF J definitely is the most rockin' PJ opening song. I love the Ramones-like 1,2,3,4 and then the pause (to crack your beer) and then 1,2,3,4...and it begins. Excellent.

Excellent thread.
I felt like going for a drive this morning, so I grabbed my Yield CD and hopped in the car. (But I forgot my camera at home. ). I headed out for the loop that surrounds Red Rock canyon.
It was cool out, so I had the windows down while I was cruising along. The combination of the wind in my hair and the scenery and the gorgeous music made me feel really happy and very calm. I haven't felt this way in a very long time....this drive was just what I needed. I had the volume cranked when Faithfull, MFC, and In Hiding came on. The whole album is fantastic.
Hooray for Yield.

This is exactly why YIELD is the best. It's the ultimate feel good CD. Every time I have a bad day I put in YIELD and I instantly feel better.

Best Album Ever!
to me Given to Fly feels like it's MY song. There have been moments where I thought Present Tense or Sad would eventually become my favourite song, but in the end I always return to Given to fly to give me that ultimate feeling of "yeah man, that's IT"
On the plane to Canada, I've had it on repeat for a few hours.
And at this very moment, Given to fly kicks in from my Kitchener boot. Aaaah, that was my first time hearing it live. "Ran for hundreds of miles... to get here". You bet I did, Eddie! I remember my friend next to me in Kitchener, who knew this was my favourite song, he looked at me, gave me a tap on the shoulder, and looked back to the stage. Aaaah, I'll never forget that moment.
Yield...
How do I explain to my family this is one of my favourite pics from the whole Canada-trip:

Can I interest you in a flow-bee? It sucks as it cuts!

btw Yield does kick ass! Second best behind Vitalogy in my book

Yield is a frustrating album to me. It is clearly in the number four spot--not in the same league as Vitalogy, Ten, and Vs. but way better than No Code, Binaural, and Riot Act.
There are some truly great songs on there (Brain of J, Wishlist, DTE, and Given To Fly) but there are a few songs that never quite make it to that level. In Hiding and Faithful never quite felt finished to me, like they are skeletons of songs they never finished. If you compare those songs to some of their earlier anthems they just don't sound as rich and full to me. MFC could be great if not for that 'ask I'm an ear' line which just sounds awkward. Pilate and No Way are both great songs musically with pretty sub-par lyrics. If Eddie had written those lyrics or if faithful and In hiding just had a little more going on it would be a serious contender for their best.
I agree that Yield is maybe the most fun to listen to. And I've really been into All Those Yesterday's lately. They should open a show with that song
