It was a good record but much like No Code I found the subsequent tour lacking.

Whaaaa!? the '98 tour has got to be a contender for best PJ tour to date.

look at what yield brought us:

single video theory

d.t.e video

awesome album packaging

polished, but not overproduced sound / mix / tone / vocals

the start of heavy touring (noted as best tour on live on two legs)

tied with vs. for me as best album

this album blows away bicrapal

Yield is the best Pearl Jam record and one of my favorite rock and roll records ever. Lyrically and musically, it touches on everything the band is great at. My only complaint is that it is the only PJ record that doesn't end on a sad/contemplative note, and I like that better. It is a very underatted album. Mainly I think because the time period and the public's changing tastes. It's the album I play for people who aren't PJ fans to win them over.

The music, the lyrics, locals, and producition are the overall best. "U" should have made the record, though. :)

It's a great record but it's no Vitalogy or Binaural.

Yield is the prize possession of a band that has declined since. The pinnacle of their creative genius. Not only my favorite PJ record but my favorite record of all time (notching out Euphoric Morning).
The only negative about the album, and this is a stretch, is that it guaranteed everything after it would not be as good.
It was also (yield) a point in Ed’s career when he stopped singing like he did in the days of old. On Binaural and Riot act he took to mumbling. I personally think he did it intentionally (God knows why), too quick to have been from age. It is a shame really. I miss the old Ed.

I think this is one of the reasons why Binaural wasn't recieved as well. Expectations were way too high

I like Yield. I think it was a change of pace for Pearl Jam as it went more straight forward rock from the quieter No Code. It also featured Mike McCready writing a lot on the record which just added to the shake up.

It's probably my second favorite Pearl Jam album behind No Code. Actually, it might be third behind Binural (I usually change my opinion on which I like better between Yield and Binural).
