Mostly searching for Self Pollution Radio and Monkey Wrench Radio turn up requests for flacs of the sets, but I can't seem to find a decent thread to discuss the actual broadcasts.
I caught just a little bit of it all when MWR originally aired, but listening here in 2011 is such a nice experience. Sure, all of these broadcasts capture very specific moments in the band's history (and some incredible performances), but what I like most is how much of the 90s and radio culture in general have been preserved here. So many fun little moments on here between friends, and lots and lots of late night music.

Guys, Krist Noveselic and Matt Lukin are the stars of MWR and SPR. That, and that "nobody is listening to this anymore" moment when Stone gets to deejay and surprises everyone with some of the grooviest music known to man.

Purely as a mode to listen to a recording of a show, it sounds shitty. But there's something to be said for having the recording of a broadcast as an artifact.

Yes yes. Let's not throw out the baby with the bath water. If you are a cultural hound, you should consider yourself incredibly lucky that these broadcasts even exist.
I don't give the after-show broadcasts as many listens as the main radio broadcasts, but the after-show from Atlanta is a good one.
Yeah, mono AM broadcasts that sound like total shit. Thanks, Pearl Jam. It still sounds like shit even as a matrix.
Because analog audience bootlegs sound better? Now, I'm all for a live recording to sound as good as possible, but the reality is that these tapes are generally the best of what is available from that time. A good audience tape can be quite enjoyable, but many tapes are not good. I've got a ton of tapes from the 1990s, and looking back I'm amazed I ever listened to any of them in the first place. The radio recordings are light years ahead of them.
