I'm curious as to how Sony could have Man of the Hour on the greatest hits album if it was recorded and released under the Pearl Jam label? Makes me wonder if maybe the boys re-signed with Sony or just let them have the song.

I think they are well aware of the Greatest Hits and contributed. I think people are just going overboard with the antiestablishment fuck sony stuff and PJ is allowing sony to do it and gave them MOTH, but thats just me.
i wish that song had blown up more just so I could hear it on Canadian radio.
yeah, criticising major labels is hard when it comes to pj. I figure the more that gets sold of rvm the more it gets spread, promted etc the more people will notice their music in general, so I'l be buying my usual five of any release.

i wasmt aware that the big fish soundtrack was sony, thanks for the info.
but also i cant see pj not contributing somehitng to it, because weather or not they want it out they know their fans(some of them) will buy it, and im sure they want the fans to get somehting for the money. IMO

Yup....what he said.
However, that does not necessisarily give them permissions to do anything they want with the recording. You will often see non epic artists appearing on Epic soundtracks with permission from another label ("courtesy of"). This does not give the releasing label permission to do other things with the recordings. We have no idea about what the agreement was with the band between epic, so anything here is pure speculation.
It could have been as simple as the band wanted it on there and told epic they could put it on.

I liked MOH, but I think it is funny that it is considered a "greatest hit". It is a beautiful song, but not enough to make more people buy the soundtrack. It is also very new, almost too new for a album of the casual fanbase's favorites. Still, that doesn't detract from the great movie and the wonderful placement of the song at the end.

Wasn't it nominated for an Oscar? I think that fits the bill.

i don't even think it is considered a *greatest hit*...i think its more to do with the fact that the band possibly wanted to add a sweet extra track, give the song more exposure......have more casual fans hear it and dedicated fans have it on an album rather than just as a single. merely a thought.........
