Whats up fellow Jammers? I dont post much, but love reading your inputs.
Im 35 yrs old, been a long time Pj fan since the Mookie Blaylock days. Pretty much grew up with them. Saved me from those awful "hairbands" of the 80's.
I love the fact that the band has always stayed out of the limelight. Which brings me to my concern.
Do any of you feel that once this album comes out they will become more "mainstream"??
I have this kind of post 80's Aerosmith (who I hate) feeling going on. Will this album(if as good as some say it will be) bring them to the fore-front again like the Ten/Vs days??
We have a great Pj family - I dont ever want to be at a show with "band - wagon" fans.
Any thoughts??

It's an interesting point. If the band were to ever, say, do a U2, I'd be very disappointed.
Then again, there is a part of me that wishes that a more mainstream audience could appreciate Pearl Jam. I'm sick of having to remind people that they actually are still together or, worse still, actually explain to them who PJ are!

The only way they'll be big again is if they write a really popular song or album. If Pearl Jam write a popular album, I reckon it'll be pretty damn good anyways. So it's cool with me.

I share dirtyfrank0705's point of view: do you really think is it likely to happen at this point of their career? i don't think so... i wouldn't care anyway!

pretty soon this place will be overrun by teenage girls, wearing their 'stone's bitches' shirts that they bought at hot topic, and most threads will be about how hot jeff is.

Yes we are all there for the music, but like Nassau 03' there were alot of "radio hits" fans who dont know what the band is about and booed and ruined , in my opinion, what could have been an all time great show.
I wouldnt care about "new fans", just the people who goto the show to say hey, "I saw Pearl Jam".

I don't care if they became huge again. But I would like some more respect for them. It sometimes makes me sad looking through merch magazines not seeing one PJ item. It sometimes makes me sad looking through cd-stores who don't even have a Pearl Jam album. It sometimes makes me sad seeing people look at my hoodies/T-shirts clearly thinking: "Pearl who?"

The majority of people at a pj show are casual fans anyway, and it isn't like a smaller band who we're used to seeing play at small venues becoming big and playing Madison Square Garden. They already do. As far as the live act goes, they've always been really big.
If they got bigger, I think it would just enhance an already awesome crowd at the shows.

I'd like to see more mainstream respect. I also think they need one more truly classic album (classic outside the community) to go down as one of the all-time great bands so I'm pulling for it.
I'll be in the fan club section at all the shows so I'll be fine there.

I am scared that they will intentionally make it non-mainstream. I'm not encouraging a radio-friendly makeover... but they shouldn't "be punk rock" just to be punk rock. I would love to hear a "Joshua Tree" album from PJ... but fear a Sleater-Kinney inspired mess.

I like S-K, but I've kind of been fearing this as well.
I'm just hoping for a great rock album. Maybe a few more guitar solos than previous albums, and some kick ass heavy riffs that don;t get ruined by an organ that just doesn't fit the song (save you).
I've also always kind of wanted just one long, epic song. Something in the 8-9 minute range, with some changes in it here and there. We'll see.
