I made a nice playlist today at work with a mixture of Pearl Jam songs both old and new, but I find it difficult to continue past my first song on the list. The unplugged performance of "Black" will always be special to me. Ed's emotion during this performance makes this a truly special recording.
Don't get me wrong, Eddie still rules this song. The band has elevated "Black" into a real rock ballad, and to hear it performed live is a treat to behold. I really love the San Antonio 2003 performace as well. Ed does well with the vocals, and Mikey plays the shit out of it. The song is excellent, both musically and lyrically, but I'm not sure that it gets any better than that unplugged version. Thanks for listening :).

I tend to throw different playlists together depending on how I feel. I don't have too terribly much of the live stuff on my work machine, but I do have all of the studio releases. Here's the list so far...

Black (uplugged)
Undone
Soon Forget
All Those Yesterdays
Once
Why Go
In Hiding
Sometimes
Indifference
Masters of War (Benaroya Hall 03)
Whale Song
State of Love and Trust (unplugged)
Immortality
Hard to Imagine
Get Right
Immortality (Benaroya Hall 03) --This one is one of the BEST I've heard...Mike ROCKS the solo!!!
Satan's Bed
In My Tree
Off He Goes
You Are
Let Me Sleep (It's Cristmas)
Of the Girl
Around the Bend
Low Light

2003 is the only tour in which I own all the boots.

Which black has the best 'we belong together' from that tour?

I don't think I've really heard any versions of Black with the We Belong Together tag at the end that were recent. Anyone know of any good recent versions with Ed singing that?

I think I heard it once or twice in the '03 bootlegs. If you'll give me a few days, I'll listen to all of mine and see which shows they were. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember being surprised to hear it again.

Has he sung it on the 2003 tour?

From 2005 I just remember Montreal & Toronto. There have been others, but I forgot about it.

Pretty sure I listened to all those 2003 shows at one point, but I really don't remember hearing it. I figured I was wrong, though. I have trouble staying focused during Black. Just kind of got tired of that song a while ago. I'd listen to it with a tag though.

I don't think eddie ever sang it in 03 but I don't think I've heard all the shows

Me neither. I seem to remember that it caused a fuzz here when the tag was resurrected for the VFC-shows or the 05-tour.

In Winnipeg he sang "We DIDN'T belong together." Pretty damn emotional.

I need to listen to that version. Maybe I'll buy it today. I can't wait for the next full U.S. tour.

Try the Atlants jamming version, the best "we belong together" version I've heard IMHO

Hearing this song, Is so powerful, especially during the non-studio "we belong together" add in that Eddie does....it just adds so much to a song that already has so much...

What year? I went to the 2000 and 2003 shows in Atlanta. I don't remember Eddie using the tag. I also used to listen to the Atlanta '94 ahow often. Hmmm. Let me know which show, and I'll give it a listen.

It will be one of the 1994 Fox Theatre gigs. AJ is a montage of both shows so I don't know which one. One or both has listening available on the sky i scrape though.
