Been listening to this quite alot recently.....
Does anyone find it sounds a little weak when compared to the best boots from 2000 / 2003? Strange as it obviously got a better Production, as it was an official release.
I don't think PJ sound like a 'brilliant live band' from this record. Only "Untitled" really stands out for me.
I remember when I first heard the Euro bootlegs I was absolutely blown away!

Agreed, not a big fan of this CD, I will listen to any show from that tour over LOTL.
I've been thinking this also. Its not a very good depiction of pearl jam live. C'mon, 11 songs. They could have come up with a great double disc record for the 98 tour.

yeah, it was classic in its (brief) day though. Red mosquito was especially good and it was an awesome tour.
I agree. When it came out I played it all the time. It drove my girlfriend crazy. I really like the "Rockin' In The Free World" tag. I was at the 7/21/98 show in Seattle that year.
I have probably listened to it once or twice since I got my first 2000 Boot. The PJ boots have turned me off not only to LOTL, but EVERYONE's live compilations. Hearing an entire concert--with all the screw-ups and mini-speeches is far far better.

I think you have to remember that LO2L came out before they started releasing official bootlegs though.... it was their first official live release. I read somewhere that Stone said he'd listened to every version on that tour, of each song, to decide which version of each song to use. I also remember him saying he wouldn't do that again!

there are a few strong points. i really like off he goes on that disc. but overall it is pretty weak. never listen to it, and its the only official release i didnt buy on release day.

LO2L was an akward release, that is about as much as you can say. To me personally 1998 was an underwhelming and disappointing tour, alot of which had to do with the unexpected exit of Jack Irons. Not that I dont think Matt is an excellent drummer, but it took awhile for the sets to mesh and the shows to have that same click. There were definitely good shows on the 1998 tour, but overall what was selected to represent that tour was on LO2L was fairly mediocre in my opinion.

This is true for the most part. But if you can get hold of Lowlights 03 compilation, its great. Its 8 cd's but it sounds like one big show with speeches and everything.
