that'd be really cool to have, especially with the letter....
ED VEDDER GUITAR UP FOR AUCTION 12.17.07
A few friends of Kim Warnick have put together this online auction to help raise money for the medically challenged rockstar. Kim's rock and roll resume includes playing in the legendary Fastbacks as well as Visqueen. Eddie Vedder, of Pearl Jam was kind enough to donate one of his guitars to auction off for Kim. Included in the guitar case is a handwritten two page letter from Eddie that explains the history of the guitar as well as his memories of touring with Kim. Also in this package are two signed Pearl Jam posters and an original black & white print of Eddie and Kim from their '98 tour, signed by photographer Charles Peterson. Bid now to benefit Kim Warnick and take home a piece of Rock history today.
Bid on this ultimate Pearl Jam package at charitybuzz.com.

The Letter, more or less transcribed:
Dear Donor- I may be guilty of harboring too many guitars. This reflects the affections I have for the ones I’ve played live for different reasons. I am compelled to part with this one because it will serve someone I care very deeply for, ms kim, warnick.
An inbelievable highlight of touring in the 1990’s was playing exotic places with Kims band The Fastbacks. Istanbul, turkey – Lisbra, Portugal. I still think of those gigs on many occasion.
If my memory serves me, I was playing ??? telecasters during those years. It stemmed from seeing pete townsend use them in the early 80’s—in june of 1980, 1st time I saw the who, P.T. walked out with a black tele with white pickguard like this one here.
I think I had a couple of black ones, a gold one, and this one—I’d never master playing like p.t., I could at least play his ???? Kim W. may have done the same thing by playing a white ??? bass like dee dee ramone!
Please accept my apologies for making all this seem of any importance—thought I'd fill in the blanks regressive tote origin of this purchased instrument—stuff I wouldn’t mind knowing if I were to become the new owner-.
Hope you enjoy it-.
Think Fastbacks, think The Who, and most important, think Kim Warnick

Think Fastbacks, think The Who, and most important, think Kim Warnick
Raise a toast and play this sucker.
All the best. Eddie Vedder
Those are the missing bits.
Hmm...if only. Too bad he didn't auction off this baby:
This guitar sounded great live, too bad he doesn't use it anymore.

That's nuts cos i got to meet the who this year and they gave us a tour of their stage and their gear and i asked Pete did he ever give Ed a guitar? thinkin he had given him those two schecters (black&gold) cos I'd seen footage of pete using exactly the same ones. He wasnt sure so he asked his guitar tech (this gnarly old boney guy) and he said he didnt give him guitars but he did send him two Shechter pick up's once. Which makes sense cos you could see the botch job Ed made of putting them in the black one, they were being held in by duct tape! thats rock i spose..
wonder how much these will go for..this gold one, i remember he only really used it for Habit on the No Code tour. Was it played on other tours? guitar fans?

I thought he used the gold model pretty often 1996-1998. There should totally be a website collating Pearl Jam PHOTOS so I could find some pics. My brain tells me he even may have used it when I saw them in 1998...but I dunno, it was a while ago. It may've been the black one.
I know he certainly used the black one pretty much exclusively on the 2000 tour (not the one in the auction, I mean the black version of the gold Tele posted above).
I know I've seen Ed at some point with the auction guitar too but for the life of me don't know where.

I hope the winner of the auction is a guitarist and not just a fan with loot. I would want the winner to actually play it. I am into acoustics and if I could have an Ed Ved acoustic guitar I would play it everyday, not hang it on a wall or frame it.
