I posted the following last year and thought it most appropriate for the passing of 14 years since I first saw Pearl Jam on 2 November 1991. Unbelievable how fast it all goes! Check it out:
This past weekend I took my 2 1/2 year old daughter to see "Sesame Street live on Stage" at the memorial auditorium in Burlington, VT. While waiting for the show to start, I couldn't help but think that 13 years ago I saw Seattle's finest with the Chili's and the Pumpkins in the same venue. I was a young man at 22 without a clue. In those 13 years I've been divorced, become a father, served in the Army for four years, was a cabin dweller in Alaska and had old friends killed in a war waged under false pretense. I am now realtively successful in the mental health field and still am a huge Pearl Jam fan. Every album they've released serves as a sort of milestone. I remember where I was and who I was with when I purchased their latest effort. I'm still convinced to this day that I was the first person to buy VS in the state of Alaska!! I've read some of the posts that complain about the direction the music has taken over the years and I can't help but think; "It's evolution baby." Repetition leads to medicocrity and medicocrity is the hobgoblin of little minds. I think Riot Act is their greatest album next to Yield! We all mature! During my service to Uncle Sam I had little opportunity to catch the boys on tour. Yes, I could've flown to Seattle from Alaska, but duties wouldn't allow for it. Since I relocated to the lower 48, I've seen them 5 x's and leave each show with a huge grin. Yes I do take a piss break during the "songs for the ladies" but I do so knowing that soon they'll be tearing it up. I can't wait to see what '05 holds for the band and for us, the fans!! I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!Thank you for reading. This is a great forum !!!

Absolutely, I think they are evolving to be one of the greats next to Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc..... But with a different sound all together.
I'm listening to Riot Act as I type, and it's fucking great. Glad you got to see them again. I can't wait for the new album.

Where were you at in AK?
I lived in Fairbanks in a sweet cabin on College Road. Miss the hell out of it too. Nothing quite like running to the outhouse at -40!!!

Went to my first PJ show in 1995 in Auckland. I had a ticket for the first night but not the second. Ended up jumping the fence with like 250 people and got into see them again. That was such a bad ass thing to do but shit who gives a fuck. The fence we jumped was eventually pushed over and heaps of kids got in to see them. Saw them again in 1998. I behaved myself that time. Hoping they'll come back again one day. Now I'm a big kid with a job and shit, I can buy tickets for all their shows and follow their tour however small it may be!
