Good song. Probably my favorite on No Code.

I love this song. Definitely one of my favorite songs from my favorite album. :)

It has great lyrics and tune, it's kinda happy and melancholic in the same time, but it makes me VERY happy while I'm listening to it...

Just the name SMILE makes you :) and you can't get away from that positivity. It's made for making us happy...
And I don't think I've heard it live yet (well, I've only been to 3 shows...)

My nickname on the net and my mails is usually siversmile, the last part reffering to the song, not just myself being a person with a smile on my face all the time...

Smile always makes me smile. I love it. :)

For some reason I always think of my grandmother who I was close to as a child. I'm her favorite grandson and, whenever my family went to visit her as a child, I always stayed by her side helping with chores, playing cards with her, etc. Now that I'm getting older (as is she), I see her less and less. I was listening to "Smile" one time and it reminded me of her and made me think about the inevitability of her passing, and I broke down crying.

It's not my favorite on No Code, but it blows my mind that such a simple song with such simple lyrics can evoke such strong emotions. I always think of her when I hear it now, and it makes me sad, even though she's still alive and over 700 miles away from me. I know the day's coming and it's hard to think about...

oh man great song,
the harmonica plays into the song beautifully.
i wish they would play it live more often, the song has so much power and emotion,
everytime a brother of mine moves away. -i miss you already-

another genuis song from the mind of eddie and jeff.

The song really should be on Mirrorball, or at least song #3 on Merkinball. It's probably in my all time PJ Song Top 10. I adore it.

"Smile" is one of PJ's greatest examples of their greatness. Not because of the guitar, rhythm section, vocal performance, etc; I've always thought of the song as being absolutely sad and heartbreaking but buried within in a catchy little pop-song package. The song fits perfectly on No Code, especially being followed by "Off He Goes."

Along with a few others from the band's canon, this one absolutely needs to be played live more often and not broken out here and there to mix things up. For any other band, it would be a staple of their live sets. And deservedly so.

I'm all for that. I love Yellow Ledbetter, Baba O'Riley and RITFW, but its time to start mixing up the concert closers a bit. And Smile would be a perfect closer, IMO.
