I had put on Vitalogy this morning in the car. It litterally kicked my ass. I have a black eye and a bloody nose. Kind of embarassing showing up to work like that.

Vitalogy still does that to me too. I feel like it was the last Pearl Jam album that felt important. Which is not to say that the other albums aren't good or great or have great songs on them. But you (or at least I) get a feeling listening to vitalogy that this album really MEANS something, that in some way it is an important contribution to the history of music.

I think it's the most "relevant" album Pearl Jam has done, though I personally like No Code a little more. But yes Vitalogy kicks serious hiney
How one can think that Vitalogy is more relevant then Ten baffles me, but to each his own. I like Vitalogy a shitload more than Ten, but in the history of music, Pearl Jam are going to be remembered for Ten, not Vitalogy.

yea by people who dont really understand the band or think Ten is there only album! Ten is a great album dont get me wrong but by most pj fans it wont be remembered as their best by most!
Maybe it hit me so hard because I have been on a steady diet of boots and live music so long. Putting in a studio version was like a slap in the face. So tight and well mixed compared to the boots. That being said Vitalogy sounds the most "live" of the studio albums. You get the feeling they recorded the whole album through in one take. From the rawness of the vocals to the guitar strings sloppily buzzing on Tremor Christ. Amazing.
vitalogy is great i talk to people that are not big fan of pearl jam and they really love vitalogy and its in the most jukebox just song that can wake up dead last exit whipping not for you spin the black awesome man !!!

What the heck? How's that?
The reverb, slick production, dozens of nu-metal fans i know who own it. It does seem pretty far removed from the rest of their albums.
As far as Vitalogy not being as relevant as Ten, maybe someday, some groundbreaking artist will name Vitalogy as a great influence and everyone will realize what a brilliant album it is. That's my dream anyways. And I`m the ground-breaking artist. And I OD when I'm 25.
vitalogy is clearly their most original and best work. hands down. it is everything a pearl jam album is and should be. quirky, rocking, eerie, sweet. it's all those things and more. plus the artwork is by far the coolest.

You better get to work. You only have two years.
