With the new album looming, and promising song titles such as 'Worldwide Suicide' I've been wondering whether or not people think some the song titles are bad. I think both Worldwide Suicide and Crapshoot Rapture are awful, but I was worried about Love Boat Captain until I heard it.

Here's the plan - I'm going to throw out a couple of contentious titles, let's toss them around, see if we can make a decision. I'm going to throw down Corduroy as a great title, and say that I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks about it and these other songs:

Glorified G
Love Boat Captain
Breakerfall
MFC

Corduroy is a good title. As for the others, Glorified G is awful, Love Boat Captain is a tad cheesy and the other two are pretty good, in my opinion.

Pearl Jam often throw me off with their song titles. For example, I thought I Am Mine would be a punky little number

Oh, and Even Flow is a great song title. It's quite an underused phrase really... wonder how EV came up with it?

I only like Breakerfall and MFC

breakerfall is a very good songtitle in combination with the lyrics

I think he probably went 'duh duh duh' along with the melody during the chorus, tried to find words to fit, and came up with it. But how?

I'm sorry, I appear to have answered your question with a question.

I think the title "Breakerfall" is just hideous. "Break Her Fall" would be SO much better, and it wouldn't smack of an utterly failed attempt to be oh so clever.

Corduroy-- Fine with me.

Glorified G-- Hate it, but I hate the song too, so that adds to it.

LBC-- Love the song, but that title is just dumb.

Breakerfall -- Hate the song, but the title is fine.

MFC-- Better than if they named it Mini Fast Car

Also, someone mentioned Tremor Christ in the other thread. I love that title.

I assume it's about how the protagonist's faith in Christ is shaken through his actions. My two cents anyway :)

Punkdavid's assessment of Breakerfall is exactly how I feel.

I like: Y'know what, there aren't any "brilliant" titles. There's just titles and shitty titles.

How do you classify a song title as cool or shitty? Is there criteria for song titles? For the new songs, we don't know lyrics so maybe the title correlates in a cool way with the content of the songs. Anyway, I'm rambling.

Personally I associate the title with the actual song. Therefore "Stacey's Mom" is the shittiest song title in the history of song titles.

I love the song. The title's stupid. Same as Brain of J. What the fuck? If it's about a Gun ... say "gun" ... if it's about JFK, say "JFK."

I agree with you about Brain of J, but "Glorified Gun" sounds just as stupid as "Glorified G." Maybe "Glorified" would've worked best?
