this is the official thread addressing the red mosquito search tool.
any questions about the search tool can be addressed to this thread. hopefully this information will lead to more searching by the RM users and less clutter on the board.
i used to hate the search tool, but i've come to love it now. once you get used to it, it's pretty basic and easy to use.
let's use a specific example of a search one would run to go through how you would search it. let's use the song 'smile.' and let's say you want to find any thread about 'smile,' or that has mentioned 'smile.'
1 - under 'Search for Keywords,' you'd type smile.
2 - you'd then go down and specify a forum. if you knew it was in the main pearl jam chat, or the live chat, you can specify that.
2a - if you wanted to look in both the pearl jam main and live chat, you could search by category. find out which forums are under what category by looking at the main RM page.
3 - if you knew the thread/post was made in the previous, you could 'search previous' 3 months, 6 months...
4 - and if you'd like, you can change how your results will be sorted/displayed. this function can be great to help the organization side of things.
5 - there is a wildcard. let's say you knew i made the post you were looking for. you can, at the top, 'Search for Author.' this could be useful.
in fact, under 'sort by' you could get your results listed author, alphabetically.
for the most part you should be able to get away with basic searches for stuff. let's say you were looking for a thread about the 'best version of black.'
you can easily cut that to the category of pearl jam main chat and pearl jam live, type in the keyword part 'black and version and best.'
good luck searching.

if you only want to look for thread titles how do you do that. When I was trying to link the old song of the moment threads I would type in song of the moment and tons of threads would pop up. I just had to scroll through all of them until I found it.

type song of the moment in the search box, select search for all terms and select the pearl jam chat forum. there you go.

so if you want to do a search for more then one word i should use AND inbetween them?
You can use AND to define words which must be in the results, OR to define words which may be in the result and NOT to define words which should not be in the result.
so, if you wanted to search for a thread about , and wanted both to be in there, search: smile and no code
if you wanted to find a thread about either smile or no code, use or.
and if you wanted to find a thread about smile, and knew there was one about the song sometimes - sort of like i make the thread 'ocean and release' that one time - search: smile not sometimes
