Not for the hallucination inducing preseve, for the perfect album. What do you hope for from the new album? I'm thinking:
A couple of Stone funky rockers like Rival, Satan's Bed or Rival
A Stone anthem like In Hiding, Do The Evolution or Animal
A quieter Stone piece like Of The Girl or All Those Yesterdays
A Mike rocker like Brain Of J or Save You
A beautiful Mike classic like Given To Fly, Light Years or Present Tense
A fast Jeff number like God's Dice, Hail, Hail or Why Go
An atmospheric/experimental Jeff track like Help, Help, Nothing As It Seems, Otherside or Low Light
A Matt song like You Are
An angry Eddie song like RVM, Corduroy or Greivance
A Betterman style singalong
A beautiful vocal performance with atmospheric backing like Indifference or Release
Close with that, throw in a cool opener, and I think you've got yourself a pretty sweet album.

I can never seem to remember which members wrote which songs, but I do know I'm almost always a huge fan of Stone's writing. Eddie's too. I mean, I really have no issue with any of the other members songs, but they're more hit or miss for me.
I really don't want a song on the Uke (especially if the 12 track album rumor is true). Soon Forget is more than enough for me.

I took out a couple of yours, and I'll add a sort of 'experimental' Stone song like No Way.

I need to start studying my liner notes more closely.

jeff and stone don't write lyrics
Eddie doesn't mail in the vocals
Matt doesn't write by himself
They all collabarate more
They don't leave the best songs off the album
MORE MIKE

I seem to enjoy the songs by the writers in the following order:
1. Ed (simple, beautiful and straightforward)
2. Mike (rock and roll, blues)
3. Stone (creative, groovy with a sonic feel)
4. Jeff (experimental, very hit or miss, his lyrics are too abstract)
5. Matt (everything he has written doesn't sound like Pearl Jam, "You Are" sounds like something Soundgarden would have done)
I can do without the Uke unless it is live at a concert.
That is exactly what I love about their contributions; Jeff's lyrics will never be like Ed's, but I really enjoy them - Low Light, Otherside, Nothing As It Seems, Help, Help and God's Dice are great, lyrically - I'll agree that there's a touch of his abstract poetry to them which strips them of some of the immediate emotional impact of some of Eddie's work, though. With that in mind, however, I really think his lyrics grow on you better because you have to think about them a bit more. Then when you consider the bridge in Help, Help "The man they call my enemy..." I think it's obvious that he's capable of writing brilliance at times.
As for Stone's lyrics; there's an All Those Yesterdays or Of The Girl for every Thin Air. I've defended Mankind and No Way's lyrics elsewhere and I'll defend them here again - like Jeff's they involve some clever wordplay and the fact that they're written in a tighter vocal style gives Eddie more room to maneuver during choruses, bridges and so on.
I do think Matt's songs are hit and miss. I could do without Cropduster and In The Moonlight. But I think You Are is a work of brilliance, and we'll be lucky to get another song like it on the new album. If him writing slightly sub-par (for Pearl Jam, anyway) lyrics is the price we have to pay for that, I think it's a resonable trade.

I like Matt a lot as a drummer, I just don't like his songwriting.
I agree, Jeff's lyrics can be good, and some of his songs (Nothingman, Low Light) are brilliant, but there are a few I could live without (God's Dice, Nothing As it Seems).
I love them all, but I usually prefer songs written by Ed, Stone or Mike.

You Are is a pretty good song, but the lyrics (particularly the chorus lyrics) are very cheesy!
The thing that attracts me most to recent Pearl Jam albums is the varied, and yet oddly similar confection you get. The songs can seem different and yet they fit together quite well.

i half agree. i dont know if i need another soon forget, but something more in the vein of can't keep when played on the uke would be fantastic. as long as its just one song.

you cant go wrong with a ukulele...tell me how you can make a sad song with a uku..thats right its impossible its such an uplifting instrument
have you ever heard can't keep done with uke? It has a really cool wistful quality to it. Good stuff
Jeff's lyrics are a bit more abstract than Eds and of everyone in the band he is my second favorite lyricist. But a lot of his abstractions just aren't very good and he has yet to write a song with truly great lyrics. Same with Stone. If they want to write for b-sides fine, but only Eddie on the albums.
