My favorite bootleg compilation was the one called chapters that looked like vitalogy. it has the snl performances, some live performances of whipping, last exit, betterman, satan's bed, etc before vitalogy came out, dock of the bay, some bad radio stuff, some demos, bee girl.
good stuff

I have that one, too. My dad took me to the local record store for my 17th birthday and allowed me to buy 4 albums as my birthday gift. I bought Chapters, No Fuckin' Messiah and 2 other non-bootleg/non-PJ albums that I don't remember. I still have the two Pearl Jam bootlegs, and I treasure them.

Here are the answers to your question 22minutes...
"Whipping the Dog" is a bootleg of 5/13/93 - a show from a club in San Francisco, CA.
The show was a "secret", unanounced show in a relatively tiny venue called "Slim's". This show was played a few months before VS was released so the setlist draws heavily from that album. However, this show is somewhat famous for the inclusion of several rare songs including Hard to Imagine and Dirty Frank as well as the odd placement of Release approx. 20 songs into the set.
In terms of quality, the bootleg is an audience recording but pretty damn good for an audience source. Also, I believe the "Whipping the Dog" bootleg constitutes the best known source for this show.
It is a cool show with one of the most interesting setlists ever. I recommend obtaining a copy of the boot if you can.
"No Fuckin' Messiah" is a compilation bootleg which surfaced around 1994 or 1995. It too feautures rare songs such as covers of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" and Otis Redding's 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay".
It is also worth having if you can buy it cheap.
Factoid: Bootlegs often have interesting titles that seem to have no clear connection to the recording itself. The title "No Fuckin Messiah" is taken from a Eddie's well publicized bar fight in New Orleans in November 1993. Eddie recounted the story in an interview with Melody Maker in 1994. He explained that as the fracas was ending the other guy kept saying "Your not my messiah, Your not my messiah!" at which point Eddie responded "Thats what I was trying to tell you. I'm not your fuckin' messiah!"
