Blame the French, not the Belgians. Belgium was only chosen because it was an easy backdoor into France - the Wehrmacht would have suffered horrendous casualties going through the Maginot Line, and it would have robbed them of their main advantage, the initiative. When you consider that Belgium is beside Holland, which is flat and therefore perfect tank country, you see why they did it. The Belgians fought very bravely, just like in the first war too.
