It's a thorny subject, but the celts are meant to have originated in central Europe (France and Germany) and then migrated towards the British Isles. The vikings came afterwards. A more radical train of thought has the celts originating in north England and Scotland, but you'd get lynched for suggesting that at this uni

Actually, you're right about Belgium. I remember reading that, at the time of WW1, the country was often referred to in the UK as "gallant little Belgium".
