I didn't see a topic about it, but the fact that Ten is 15 is so hard for me to grasp. I remember getting this album back in 91 and each album after it, and to think that it has been 15 yrs since, makes me feel so old!
In 1996 on this day I remember searching for the nearest, within walking distance, record store around the college I had moved into the day prior! I walked there, got it, and blasted it in the dorm...then I met people who were also fans on my hall and we all hung out in my room, listened to it over and over, and had a blast.

Hard to believe how much they grew and expanded their songwriting in such a short period of time.
It's also hard to believe that they arrived, slowly became the biggest band in the world, self-destructed and threw it all away in not much more time than the pause between Riot Act and the new record.
I had just turned 12 when Ten came out. I had no idea who Pearl Jam was. I owned Automatic for the People and Bryan Adams' Waking up the Neighbors on cassette. I also liked Queen. The following year my Dad took me to K-Mart to buy a tape...I wanted Nirvana's Bleach but they didn't have it. I settled for Pearl Jam-Ten. I've been changed ever since
A friend of mine got me No Code for my birthday. I remember my sister was home from college and we listened to it all weekend together. Smile and Off He Goes were our favorite songs.

I remember being third in line at my college's local record store for the midnight sale of No Code, going back to the off campus house where I lived at the time & staying up all night listening. Might have to listen to No Code later today...great record.
Too bad my dog chewed up the power cord for my record player or else I'd listen to it on vinyl.

August 27th marks the birthday of two Pearl Jam cornerstones: Ten and No Code. Released five years apart in 1991 and 1996 respectively, both are an enormous part of Pearl Jam's history because of the incredible music and the risks the band took in releasing each album.
To celebrate this dual birthday, TwoFeetThick.com will be publishing a series of Features, Seekers, and Artifactors over the next several weeks that will take a look at many aspects of these albums, including the packaging, the promotion, the tours, the symbols and the merchandise.
The first in this series is brought to you by TFT's Jessica Letkemann, who explores the sheer mauve-osity of Ten's surprisingly intricate liner notes. You'll find great information about the Ten booklet we've each looked at countless times, and parse the wealth of information inside. Click the headline below for fun reading.
