Wow I cant believe no one thinks of the one weakness of Vitalogy that is glaring to me: Eddie's Voice. It seems like 1991-1994 were a cheese grater to his vocal cords. He sounds so raspy and vocally shallow on this album.
I used to post on this board in 2003 so this isnt really my first post.
Vitalogy is not one of my favorites, although I am grateful for it. The album started the transition to the late 90's pearl jam-audience relationship. That being said, Not for you, spin the .., and whipping equal bathroom break for me. Better man would mean the same except its usually in the encore.

I remember thinking after I had listened to "Vitalogy" for the first time, that these guys are going to find it tough to top this. I was right, they never have. Even the insanity of stupidmop somehow adds to it all. It's the most complete set of songs on one album that PJ are ever likely to produce. If I was to recommend an album to start someone off listening to PJ, it would be Vitalogy. I can see no major flaws.

Vitalogy is a great album, full of emotion and agnst. Might be my favorite Pearl Jam album. But...
1. Pry, To - WTF? This song is a waste of space. It's 1 minute of retardedness and the lyrics are horrible. Privacy is good, we get it...
2. Foxymophandlemomathatsme - another odd track. I think this should have been a hidden track or something. Its just plain creepy hearing a 5 year old talking about sex...
3. Satan's Bed whips are cheesey...
4. Aye Danavita - see Pry, To, just replace privacy with chanting
5. NEEDS SOME MIKE, BITCH!
To be fair, Pry, To is a backmasked song,It's farrr from meaningless...
Played backwards, you can hear eddie saying Pete Townsend how you saaavvved my liife...
And Aye Davinita actaully provides a nice tone for the album... it's a kind of uplifting number that contrasts right before the bleak nature of Immortality....
And Aye Davinita is just an instrumental... it's not really experimental..
And I'm surprised you didn't mention Bugs... alot of people have a problem with that song...

Vitalogy is my all-time favorite PJ album as well. My only problem with it is the interludes. While they're enjoyable, except "Hey Foxy" (which I never liked), they ruin the flow of the album for me. The only interlude I love is "Bugs", it was a favorite when the album first came out.

1. Last Exit 2. Spin The Black Circle 3. Not For You 4. Tremor Christ 5. Nothingman 6. Whipping 7. Corduroy 8. Satan's Bed 9. Better Man 10. Immortality
I think the wankery is the greatest flaw. I think of the four removed as tracks, not songs. I don't care if they fit with the theme of the album, I just can't get past them.
And I'm in the minority when I say I don't mind the missing solos from Mike. I love his playing, but honestly this idea of him missing never crossed my mind until reading this thread. I think the structure/nature of the songs don't call for some of his great lead work.

Bugs is awesome, no matter how you put it. If I were to view Aye Davinita as an instrumental then my mind would probably change about it too

i think this album was leaps and bounds better than Ten or Vs., but that being said i'm still not a big fan of it. the production was definitely much better on this one, so i'm happy that it was able to set the stage for the epic No Code.
as far as the tracks, i absolutely love immortality, and last exit is a pretty sweet album opener, but other than that, most of the tracks are mediocre at best for me. i can't stand betterman or nothingman. stbc, tremor christ, not for you, and corduroy are alright i guess, but if i listen to a boot, i skip over them every time. satans bed, bugs, and the filler tracks i dont really have an opinion on. i dont like them, but i dont hate them either.

I have to echo what's been said earlier in the thread. Please don't take this the wrong way, but what PJ songs are "your kind of songs"? What kinds of things make you a big fan of the band?
