Isn't funny how ignorant rednecks booed Eddie and Pearl Jam for disrespecting' the President in 2003 with Bushleaguer and the mask, and how now the vast majority of people will probalby cheer, and be singing along for Worldwide Suicide?
How times change, and some people only need Jack Abramoff scandal, leaking of CIA agent for politcal gain and indictment, news that the memo Bush got in August of 2001 that "Bin Laden Plans to Strike Within US", initially offering the more the countries where more than 100,000 people were killed by a tyhpoon a paltry amount, the worst federal deficit in history, the worst trade deficit in history, Delay being indicted, the complete and total disaster of handling Katrina, the destruction of New Orleans and giving corrupt contractors the government hires, and lying that they didn't expect the devastation to be that great, on videotape, Cheney lying directly to reporters saying he never meant leaders, pushing false evidence to the front that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and lying to the American public, the Dubai port scandal, Cheney being the CEO of Halliburton before he became Vice-President, profiting off that, and the US "mistakenly" giving billions of dollars to Halliburton and billions more unaccounted for, nominating an extremely unqualified person to the supereme court, Harriet Miers, nominating other cronies to various administration positions, having Enron be his #1 campaign donor in the 2000 election, flying on Ken Lay's jet around the country campaigning, having a nick name for him and then saying he barely knew him, illegal wiretapping, and the scandals in our prison.
But seriously, isn't amazing how much the reaction will undoubtedly be different this time in 3 years. And I don't think Eddie will have any problem getting as angry at those who start booing, but moreso this time I believe if it happens.
Feel free to change this topic to politics, but I believe it relates to Pearl Jam as I'm talking about fan's reactions to Pearl Jam and Eddie, and politics and Pearl Jam have always been inseperable, now more so than ever.
I am curious what will happen if he brings out a mask or speaks his mind.

I know there's more I left off, I wish there was a list compiled somewherwe with cold, hard, facts.
Or, truthiness
Oh, and completely ignoring global warming, backing out of Kyoto, invading Iraq when Iran is obviously the real threat and they let the 9/11 hijackers through, saying the obvious, what Jimmy Carer said, that we are addicted in oil, yet doing nothing at all to stop it, not making MPG restrictions higher, not increasing funding in an ammount that will make a damn, and stem cell research.
How about, the "hippies" get the stem cell research, and those opposed don't. I like that idea, Darwinism at it's best. Survival of the brightest.
But seriously, though that all above may be true, I think it's an interesting poitn, to see how people react this time.

These type of threads are getting really old. "Yeah, Eddie told 'em alright, those stupid Republicans!" Lets just enjoy the music instead of comparing dick sizes this time around, eh?
It is. I supported the president for so many year. Now I see that I dislike G.W. more than ever and WS sums it up so well. So many lost men my own age. Just like a woman's right to choose, gun control and a variety of of other PJ subject; turns out PJ was right. Eddie and PJ just come off to crazed at first, but in the end I AGREE with everything they've said. They are the better men than myself. I may be slow, but they are right on point. You gotta love PJ,

I don't know, I like the cock idea.
Maybe taints too?
I really am curious though how people will react differently this time. Looking forward to it.

I was flabbergasted when so many PJ fans sided with Bush back in 2003. I guess i was naive to think we're all like a big family and pretty much share a common view of the world. Neo-con sympathy and Pearl Jam just seemed mutually incompatible to me.
How is it possible that somebody who's familiar with PJ's songs and PJ's activism freaks out when Eddie openly attacks the president?
One (PJ-related) explanation is that some fans simply don't seem to care about the lyrics. It doesn't matter what Ed sings, only how he sings it. So his voice is merely another instrument. I feel that those people miss out on a whole dimension of PJ...but, whatever get's you through the night. We all have the right to be different. Some responses to WWS pointed in the same direction - "who cares what he sings" - so people can cheer and not give a damn...
It's a worldwide suicide...
...and they feel fine!

What a fantastic thread. If anyone is interested in a foreigners point of view, I can see that George W cops a pounding in the media. Sometimes I guess rightfully so. But he is the man. I am glad someone is actively trying to police the world.
I'm sure it's not perfect, but overriding all of that - what a fucken hard job it would be to be the president of usa.
I don't see what else can be done except to take aheavy hand to things. ie go into iraq and get something done. Spend more money to keep the economy bubbling along... Stir the pot a little bit and shake some fucked up stuff out of those trees.
Imagine what would be happening if someone else was just sweeping things under the carpet and hoping they would fix themselves...

Just for the record;
I can absolutely, thoroughly enjoy ALL of PJs music irrespective of my opinion. If they played Bushleauger again at a concept I was at, I would enjoy it. And I would enjoy the fact a band cared enough to present what they think about the matter, in such a throwaway world we live in.

And that's The Word.
One reason I'm curious, is this time I'm expecting much more cheers than boos, from across the nation, Colorado or that southern state that still says interacial marriage is illegal.
And if people do boo, we can probably look forwarded to a "I'm coked out of my mind and on my 2nd bottle of wine," crazy, shoe for the shoeless, type rant.
In the words of Bush, and Eliza Dushku in the same titled film, bring it on.

Once again, dicks. Yes, the man above mentioned them. When/where is the contest?

Since when has Denver been considered in the South. It was all of the country, did you not see the election results. So save your ignorant redneck remarks, or else people will think you are ignorant.

Or Long Island for that matter, which was the much bigger bushleaguer hate fest
I don't think those boos (at least in uniondale) came from presidential supporters (although I'm sure some did) as much as they came from the early stages of wartime patriotism where every critique of the president or the war is a critique of the soldiers fighting. That takes a few years to wear off. As annoying as it was, go and read about WWI and what happened to people who criticized that war.

that's not entirely the fans fault. It's a very catchy song for dark subject matter and so I think the song is in part meant to be a release. I'll be singing along and having a great time and I know what the song is about.

jefftom--do you mind changing the title of this thread to something that reflects its content? one of the reasons why the search feature is hard to use sometimes is that there are great threads who's title does not reflect its content). I'm sure this is a topic that someone will revisit 6 months from now.

Yeah, me too. The fact that it's a dark and serious song doesn't mean that you can't have a great time singing along. Here's a bit of philosophy: No matter how dark and hopeless life or the world may seem, there are two things you should never lose: A positive attitude towards existence and your humour. All other things that are important should follow.
