Looks like Riot act finally went gold, and Rearviewmirror Best of went Platinum as of November 2005. Theres no direct link except riaa.com and search pearl jam in the gold/platinum database

But isn't that the number used to determine gold and platinum status? An album is technically "sold" when the retailers buy it from the distributors, rather than when the consumers buy it in a store.

i don't know about that. pretty sure the consumer has to buy it for it to count. and it seems like more than 100,000 people bought riot act over the last 3.5 years. i think cal is right

I am not sure about the RIAA, but I know that Billboard accounts for CD's shipped, with a few adjustments for free cds to publications, etc. And also take into account that buying used cd's are only counted once.

According to J Records latest press release, PJ is at about 60 Million worldwide (Official Releases) Bootlegs are not counted unless they were released in stores:

i think you're right. i saw a tv program about record sales and how and it can be misleading because gold label given to a record may not reflect how many have actually be bought by consumers.
