I´ve a friend who never really got into pearl jam. Hes only a casual fan.
But Im trying to convert him and I had the idea of give him a double album with some pj tunes. I tried to mixed up all their phases. So let me know if I did a good job or not and why. (PS: I dont have lost dogs)
DISC 1 1-Sometimes
2-Off He Goes
3-World Wide Suicide
4-Faithfull
5-Jeremy
6-Around the Bend
7-Nothingman
8-I Am Mine
9-Corduroy
10-Porch
11-Indifference
12-Come Back
13-Smile
14-Love Boat Captain
15-Rats
16-Light Years
DISC 2 1-RVM
2-Whislist
3-Given to Fly
4-Low Light
5-Do The Evolution
6-Alive
7-Thumbing My way
8-Betterman
9-Even Flow
10-Go
11-Present Tense
12-Immortality

17-Life Wasted
And what disc would you choose? I think disc number 1 has a better mood.

I like doing this shit too so I'll comment. I think the songs on both discs are too mixed up in terms of tempo. Start with "Sometimes" or "Elderly Woman" and then pound it with energy and build from there. Like a rollercaoster. Go up and then down. I know if the mix is halfway descent, the band has already played it

I tried to do that but im doing this for a girl. So I didnt put many rocking songs you know. More soft and emotional songs.

I agree. I think you have a nice blend of old and new, etc. but more attention to the order with respect to tempo and energy level might be helpful. I always like to use Present Tense and Betterman to ease these transitions b/c they start so mellow but build towards the end of the song. I hope your friend likes them.

Yeah I know what you mean. Maybe Ill change the order of some songs on disc 1. Come Back and Indifference together maybe is not gonna work so well.

It has Even Flow ===> 1/10
Needless to say, I like disc 1 the most.
But it had to be there man. I mean I have been listening even flow for like ten years now, sure im tired of it. Im always skipping it at the boots but its perfect track for a non die hard fan.
I think less is more with these efforts. It makes a stronger impression if you can force yourself to compile a single cd of maybe 10-12 songs that flow together nicely. A carefully selected sampler can be a more effective way to whet a newbie's appitite and motivate them to do some further exploration on their own.
I have found that massive compilations like the one you have created (33 songs) tend to overwhelm the casual listener and most people don't have the patience to fully analyze and digest each song. Shit, even I skip over songs on the greatest hits album (which is also 33 songs).
Also, not to criticize but I am concerned about how these songs are going to flow for a casual listener. There is some serious jerking back and forth between Big time rockers and super slow songs (rvm>Wishlist, Go>Present Tense, Alive>Thumbing my way)
a friend gave me a 2 cd pearl jam mixtape too. he mixed them by mood: upside and downside.
right now i can't remember exactly all the titles and the order, i remember downside started with long road (which is a beautiful way to start a record), and tracks 10 and 11 were i got shit and light years, which i think merged quite good.
upside last two tracks were smile and breath...i love to play that while driving
