Hopefully this is not a taboo topic, but I was just wondering where everyone's gotten their b-sides from in the past.
I used to buy the cd singles; it always irritated me, though, that I'd have to buy a cd for two songs, one of which I already know. basically, I'd buy them and never play them.
Then I started amassing b-sides from friends, but the perfectionist in me wanted my own, comprehensive collection. Lost Dogs was awesome, but I get the feeling from a lot of discussion that there are a lot more songs that I'm missing out on, especially from the Binaural sessions.
I guess what I'm asking is, is there a legal way to get this stuff? I want to hear all these songs everyone's talking about.

musicworld, hmv, sam the record man, taz records, tower records, cd plus, select records, urban sound exchange, record on wheels, sunday flea market at penhorn mall etc ... places i've bought my cd singles before '99. i seen many bootlegged cds being spread around by kts/oxygen records (and various other companies) which included the christmas singles & all b sides pj released to that date.
after '99, not many b-sides singles were available here in the maritimes, was hard to get or sony just didn't care (not much demand or something). so the only way i could buy them was online. hmv.ca (with amazon) i've purchased many cd singles from there. very happy.

the collecting of the actual hard copies used to be a lot of fun. The internet took some of the fun out of it, but on the other hand you can find just about anything if you're industrious. Just google pearl jam and the foreign fan sites have just about everything

CD singles are hard to get hold of cheap usually - try ebay. For Oasis b-sides (which are ALWAYS high quality complete songs) I started collecting the singles (this cost me about £1.50 a disc, for 2-3 new songs). They have done one compilation CD and one more planned but like PJ not all the tracks, especially some of the best ones, are included.
Mp3s on the net are easy to find if you make friends with someone generous, but for the sake of the law (which is up to you, I don't always abide either) its better to buy the singles.

there was a time, around 96/97, where the vitalogy singles were thrown out for like 50 euro cent on these big trash cd tables in big record stores here in germany... crazy... i got all my pj singles around there release for more or less 5 euro. the most expensive single i bought was even flow with the alternate version of it, in london for 6 pounds...

I paid $10-20 for several of my singles and old xmas singles I didn't have. I won't pay much more than that. I think the most I paid was the $16 for the Alive promo single, and about $17 for the Hail Hail single.
Oh, yeah, I did pay $22 for the Japanese Alive EP back around 1998 when it was still very hard to find. Now you should be able to get one of those for more like $10.

i used to work at a record store and ordered the hail hail single. it took about 3 weeks and yeah i paid probably $20 bucks to basically hear black red and yellow. this was in 97 before mp3s were everywhere. it was worth it to have the hard copy though.
i was lucky enough to find off he goes used at another record store but it was still $12
i remember caryn or jean from 5h ranting about this topic way back when. pj went and reissued all their ten/vs singles so u.s. fans wouldn't have to pay high import prices. then the hail hail and off he goes cd singles were import-only. again forcing fans, who had no rationalization when it comes to pj, to pay out the ass to basically hear one song.
