Was just listening to Out of My Mind today, could this be one of those outstanding PJ songs we just never talk about? I read everyones comments more than I write on here, but wanted some thoughts about this song, its a real good one to jam out in the car to (alone, as I am a bad singer).

I like it, alright. I think it's a good B side, rather than album track. Kind of catchy, but simple and not overly compelling. One of those songs that if it was a hit, would get boring really quick because there really are not any layers to it.

Interestingly enough (most likely to me though), this was one of the first PJ songs I really fell in love with. After having heard Yellow Ledbetter on the radio (circa '99 or very early '00), I logged onto Napster and downloaded as much PJ as I could find. Out of My Mind was one of the songs that I found and placed it on my first PJ mix. I listened to constantly that mix constantly before I really got into the band, which turned out to be about four years later.

great song. pretty good lyrics if you ask me, especially if they really made it up on the spot in atlanta and then only played it once more in springfield. i bet there's a studio take of this floating around somewhere.

I'm with Buggy---a fun little improv that I enjoy hearing every now and then but it would not survive heavy rotation

I remember hearing this song on the radio around 1995 or 1996, and searching for years until I found it, not knowing even what disc to find it on. I was mighty pleased when I figured out where it could be found, and then finding that I could easily buy it at a record store.

I’ve always liked it, but I don’t think it stands up to repeated listens particularly well. Like Buggy said, if it were a single, I’d get real bored of it real quick. But it is quite remarkable in that it is largely off-the-cuff improve, and it it’s still pretty tight compared to most of their improves from that era.

Out of my mind...out of my mind...
All of the time...

Wish you could help me mister...
Wish you could lift me up...
Wish you could pack my parachute mister...
Wish you could pull me up.

The winds have change, I'm stuck beneath the rain...
I wish you could help me up...
Out of my mind...out of my mind...
Once inside, I'm out of my mind...
Out of my mind...out of my mind...
Once inside, I'm out of my mind...

Wish you could help me, give me a pill...
Just a little drink that I could swill.
A little something, anything, anything, I'll try all...

I ain't got nowhere to go from here.
I'm just about this far
From drowning in my very own tears.
Out of my mind...out of my mind...
Once inside, I'm out of my mind...
Out of my mind...out of my mind...

I don't feel so high...
out of my mind...

Where do I go? Where do I stay?
I got no place to lay in the hay.
Where do I go to soothe my head?
Guess I'll turn on music instead.
Where do I see? Where do I shine?
No one wants to take my mind.
Where do I go? How do I feel?
Guess I'll waste away in here...

Out of my mind...out of my mind....
Out of my mind every single time...
