I took some shorthand on the differences I noticed in the album and was thinking of writing a paper for my Music class off them. Besides grammar, what am I missing, and what did I get wrong?
LW: That alternating speaker riff kicks the album into gear. Also Mike’s tone coloring in the bridge and the first part of his solo are amazing. Oh how I hate fades, but maybe this one’s appropriate.
Comatose: All Ed’s scathing vibrato comes in nice and clear. Great driving song.
Sev Hand: That intro is cool with the crescendo feedback and the staccato eighth notes build into the riff. Jeff’s bass line is more robust. The inflection on Mike’s effect during the 2nd verse lets you know it’s kicking in. “I can tell†instead of …
MITS: Matt makes this lopsided riff great and blends the chorus perfectly with his steady beat. Simple bridge for such a busy song. It works. I really like the double time 3rd verse, chorus, double time progression with Boom’s one chord at the end.
Parachutes: It’s Stone’s “ands†and how many ways “4/4 4/4 3/4â€can be played under Ed’s unison multitracking. Love how they hide Mike in the organ in rhyme with “break the sky.†Great word play.
BW: Impressed by the octave multitracking “yeahs†on 2 3 4, and the more subtle “wooh.†The 4/4 5/4 alternation is sheer brilliance.
Gone: Giving it a Dave A. feel, Matt’s “ands†on hi hat propel the 2nd verse. That note above “nothing is†gives me chills. The 3&4 on the bell of the cymbal make the song for me.
Reprise: Very cool meandering, weddingesque organ.
AR: A floating song accents around the & of 3 that shifts to the 4 in the outro. Surreal.
Come Back: An unconventional melody to a simple structure. The faint noodling organ is discernable now as well as the swirling effects out of Mike.
Inside Job: PJ’s Stairway to Heaven. A B A B C form. A digital Dakota opens, then Stone on the acoustic. Is that Mike with an ebow? Then Ed comes in with a timbre he hasn’t tried before. A little piano, then Jeff and Matt give it the groove. The two chord bridge really builds energy into the energetic conclusion. Some psychedelic strumming and the album’s over. Repeat.
Thanks for any and all help.

You should never put (wasted) Reprise and Very cool in the same sentense
