i used to work at an indie record store here in rochester, ny, and we would get our major new releases on friday that were coming out on tuesday.
the minor releases would come in on monday.
it is illegal to sell them early... but some stores to it.
my boss was a stickler, so we didnt... but i was always able to get them from a store about a half hour away, on friday afternoons.

Which store did you used to work in? My girlfriend is from Victor and I have been to a couple really cool record shops in downtown Rochester.

fantastic records, which was in pittsford - it closed about 2 years ago. it was by far the best record store i have even been to. i was blessed to work there.
the day they closed was one of the saddest days of my life.

exactly, the place down the street does this all the time...
but you have to know they do it... they don't put them out on the shelves... but if you go in and ask if they have it, they will sell it to you and not give you a receipt...
i still hope they do this b/c they've really switched to a full on DVD store over the years... the only thing i ever buy there is pearl jam albums the week before, so its been a while since i've been in

so shipping on the 26th means we'd have it in the mail by may 2nd, right? or was this just to retail stores?

I asked him "Did you ship the pre-ordered CDs yet" and he said "They're being processed right now. The plan is to ship them on April 26th and they should get to everyone right on May 2nd." I'm guessing the East Coast will get them on May 2nd and closer locations will get it a day or two earlier.
