I had read that Neil and PJ wanted these songs on Mirror Ball but they could not be included due to copyright issues between the two labels. Hence their release on the Mirkin Ball single.
If this had not been an issue, where would they have been in the album? Does anyone have any theories on this or info on what the track list would have been?

Neither had I, but the single clearly states, "This piece accompanies Neil Young's Mirrorball."

I think wal-mart et all won't carry it if it says I got shit. But since touring band was not available in those outlets (I think?) it wasn't a problem

It is really 'I Got Shit'. Back then 'shit' was a cuss word, and offensive to the mainstream. Their record label made a stink about it. This is Ed's way around it.

This problematic origin may be the source of much of the hate for the song.
Definitely on NO CODE, here is a No Code tracklist i have been listening to for years, it sounds soo good.
Sometimes
Hail Hail
Who You Are
In My Tree
Dead Man
Smile
Off He Goes
Habit
Red Mosquito
I Got ID (Shit)
Present Tense
Long Road
I'm Open
Around The Bend
solid SOLID album listening to it like this. yet it is also tops how it already is. just a little different listen.
