Pearl Jam sues to stop would-be bootleggers
Published May 12, 2006
Proving that rock 'n' roll isn't only about the music--it's also about the money--Pearl Jam filed suit in Chicago on Thursday to keep counterfeiters from cashing in on the band's name during its current U.S. tour.
Filed in U.S. Northern District Court against "various John Does, Jane Does and XYZ companies," the suit would allow the band's security to confiscate any pirated merchandise being sold outside the shows, said the band's Chicago-based lawyer, Douglas Masters.
The complaint was filed after bootleggers were spotted outside Pearl Jam shows in Toronto.
"Given the nature of Pearl Jam's fame and fan base, there's a high likelihood the [counterfeiters] will do it again," Masters said.
In the suit, Masters asks for the order to be effective throughout the tour, which lasts through at least August.
Masters said that such requests are common and that he has filed them for performers including the Smashing Pumpkins. Pearl Jam plays the United Center on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Geez, can you blame them? I don't think this will have any effect on people trading music. Only on people trying to sell what you have aquired by trading. Selling fan recordings isn't approved of around here any ways. Why do you think it is a bad thing?

it's just bootleg t-shirts and such, that's all this is about...
Pearl Jam bootleggers could be selling *DEFECTIVE* merchandise to fans.. for Chicago Tribune to imply PJ is greedy for this obviously shows that whoever wrote that is a fucking idiot & didnt think about it in the most simple way.

when we think of bootlegs, we're thinking audio. and that is why there is so much action on this thread
if you would have said "fake tshirts" no one would have cared

well now what am i supposed to do with all these "paerl jam" shirts?
Hahahahaha, nice.
Yeah, I don't see how this is a problem for anyone. They aren't letting people sell illegal, cheap crappy t-shirts to make money off of their band- they must be sell-outs.
