relegated to oblivion in the "3rd leg rumors" threead, i repost this possible promise of a 3rd leg tour of the south in august
from pitchfork:
And finally, on their quest to become 2006's second-best utensil-related band (sorry kids, The Knife owns), Spoon have been in talks with an unnamed "big" act about a package tour to kick off this August. As Britt teased Billboard, "Let's put it this way -- if it works out, they'd definitely be taking us out rather than the other way around." Pearl Jam's representatives were unavailable for comment as of press time.
what other major acts--that would have an opener like spoon (from the south) --are possibly going to be touring the south during this said time???

i've seen them twice
once before "gimme fiction"
and the other after it was released
i didn't like them either time (the second show was with a friend who i was visiting) (incidentally i met my fiancee a couple of nights later at my monring jacket)

a bet of sorts?
i'll put money on my pony. if there is a third leg in august in the states, you buy my new album/pre-order it (i've yet to) and if there isn't, then i'll buy yours (or reimburse you)??
Since they are playing those English festivals in August and there are already some more or less "confirmed" European dates in September that rule out the possibility of them playing more English shows after Reading/Leeds, I'd say they are not touring the south of the US in August. Most English dates are bound to be before the festivals, so I think they are playing the UK the week before Reading/Leeds. So that's them somewhere in Europe somewhere around August 20. Considering the fact that they like to take some time off in between legs, chances that they are playing the south in August are pretty slim in my opinion.

that's not always true.
the Ahoy show (cancelled) in 2000 was scheduled a month after Pinkpop.
I still think Reading will be the one of the first concerts in Europe.

Yeas that is true, but the show in Ahoy and Werchter2000 for that matter "fitted" in the tour schedule. I don't think they are going to fly to the UK twice, that's just not cost-effective. And since they are playing Barcelona on sept. 1 according to this, I think they are going to schedule the English dates mostly before the festivals. There is room for one or two shows after the festivals, but the bulk of them are going to be before the festivals.

that falls right in line w/ the Azkena Rock Festival in Vitoria, Spain that they're supposedly playing (8/31-9/2)
I think Pitchfork was being funny. Last week they ran a story on PJ and how their opening acts are much, much cooler than PJ, etc. I think this is just them poking a little fun.
That said, i will absolutely travel to see a few dates of these two bands together. Spoon is an amazing band.
