All the talk in the album sales thread about "PJ" selling pretty well for a 16 y/o band's 8th album got me thinking -- how does the album stack up to other bands' 8th albums?
A few examples (excluding live albums and using AMG to guesstimate):
Between the Buttons - Rolling Stones
Sgt. Peppers' - The Beatles
In Through the Out Door - Led Zep
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
Long May You Run or Zuma - Neil Young (depends on whether or not you count Time Fades Away as an album)
St. Anger - Metallica
Subterranean Jungle - Ramones
New Tattoo - Motley Crue
Zooropa - U2
Automatic for the People - REM
Alapalooza - Weird Al Yankovic
Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty
Don't Tread on Me - 311
I'm So Confused - Jonathan Richman
Alive II - KISS
Risk - Megadeth
By The Way - RHCP
Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
Moving Pictures - Rush
That's just a start... List more and I'll add them.

There is really no competing with this.
Yeah, I kind of laughed when I realized that was their 8th.
Also, the fact that the Beatles and Stones released so many albums early on in their careers kind of skews things a bit. It would probably be more worthwile to compare "PJ" to their mid-late period stuff like Revolver and Sticky Fingers.
edit: and now that i think about it, since the Stones are still going, Sticky Fingers could probably be considered "early period" for them.
Now That's What I call Music 8:
1. Bootylicious - Destiny's Child
2. Pop - Nsync Listen Listen Listen
3. I'm Real - Jennifer Lopez
4. Stutter (Remix Featuring Mystikal) - Joe
5. Someone To Call My Lover - Janet Jackson
6. Am To Pm - Christina Milian
7. A Little Bit - Jessica Simpson
8. Crush - Mandy Moore
9. Rock The Boat - Aaliyah
10. U Got It Bad - Usher
11. More Than That - Backstreet Boys
12. Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz
13. Start The Commotion - Wiseguys
14. Me, Myself & I - Jive Jones
15. I'm A Believer - Smash Mouth
16. Fat Lip - Sum 41
17. The Rock Show - Blink 182
18. Bad Day - Fuel
19. Be Like That - 3 Doors Down
20. Walk On - U2

Well, some of those others you can't really compete with, but Led Zep's "In Through the Out Door," while many may disagree, is total crap. Stuff like "Carouselambra" is just awful, awful music. Seriously, when you have a band with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, why would you ever let John Paul Jones take over the song?
However, R.E.M. had what is easily their second best (some would say best) album at that point, although with the next one, "Monster" was pretty bad.
I dunno, I'd say with PJ they've released so many albums in a short period of time it's hard to compare them.

Its better than that Led Zep offering, easily their weakest.
While it is much better than In Through the Out Door, nothing on the album tops "Fool in the Rain."
In the Evening? All My Love?
This is the track list:
In the Evening South Bound Saurez Fool In The Rain Hot Dog Carouselambra All My Love I'm Gonna Crawl
can't even compare - it's too short.
Fool in the Rain is easily the best song, just because it's fun. All My Love is one of the worst Zeppelin songs ever, and if you disagree you are wrong. In the Evening is alright if only for Page's wailing guitar, but it's nothing special. Overall, ITOD = Complete Shit.

you can't love Fool in the Rain and not All My Love. You just can't.

Either zooropa or pop for U2 (do you count rattle and hum as a full album). Either way PJ is better.
I think tunnel of love was springsteens 8th and that one is very good.

I missed an important one: Alapalooza - Weird Al Yankovic. A classic 8th album.

There's so much original material on R&H that I think you have to count it. I hate Zooropa (but love Pop), so that's an easy decision.
I think I like Zooropa . Espesh the song Zooropa
Don't worry baby, it'll be alright You got the right shoes To get you through the night It's cold outside, but brightly lit Skip the subway Let's go to the overground Get your head out of the mud baby Put flowers in the mud baby Overground

About the only thing I like off Zooropa is The Wanderer. Other than that it's just too "euro" sounding for my tastes.

I don't understand why Pop gets dumped on all the time, either. It's not their best, but it's far from their worst (and light years better than the last two turds they squeezed out). Wake Up Dead Man is one of my favorite songs, ever.
