A friend of mine is a huge Pearl Jam fan and is starting a cataloging of all of Eddie's concert rants. He's been working on transcribing Eddie's rants and comments from the last two tours. So far he's got 2002-2006 transcribed and is beginning to work down from 2001. The catalog system works by placing Eddie's rant/comment into one of eight categories. The categories fall under the headings of: "Hellos", "Pandering to the Audience 101", "General Democracy Rants", "Band Member Introductions", "Anti-Bush/Pro-Bush Opponent", "Other Band Pro Comments", "Other Band Con Comments", and "Miscellaneous". Although I think he needs some other hobbies, it should be interesting to see the outcome of his project. I'm trying to get him to post his results online with a link to RM but so far he refuses. He won't read any Pearl Jam message boards because he said they're, "too pedestrian." Does anyone have any suggestions I could pass on to him about how best to catalog the rants?

anyway, i hope he does this. it's been discussed for years.

he should add a rants & chides audience catagory as well.

Really? Don't remember that one but its been awhile since I last listened to that boot.

I'm not sure how I can post it. He's doing it in like a card cataloging filing system using a typewriter (he's kind of old fashioned, the dude is hardcore though). I really don't have the time or desire to copy all that onto a computer. From what he's done so far I'm thinking the entire thing will consists of several hundred pages.
As far as PJ message boards being pedestrian I've argued this point with him several times. He says it's a place to trade childish gossip and one-up people pointlessly on your PJ knowledge.

What the hell is wrong with him? Why is he typing it all out. Put it to CD so you can listen to it. Who wants to sit down and read all that?

I like this idea of putting it to CD. I'm going to strongly suggest it to him. That would be fucking incredible. I can only imagine the number of CD's you'd have to go through. Also, how would you file them, according to each concert or according to rant category? This would be sweet bc I could burn copies and put them on mp3 or some format. It would give everyone access.

Holy hell that's a lot of work. And I thought I put some time in to some unnecessarily elaborate PJ projects.

So I assume your friend has listened to every show from 2002 - 2006? Thats alot. I could get into a project like this and it would be very easy for me to put everything to cd.

i do this too, though usually mine is the nightly get drunk and come up with my dream setlist of the moment, then drink more and play video games.

isn't there a 'jokes' and 'stories' 'song explanations', or ' city/country/location comments' ?

He should share them all through Soulseek. If that's not too pedestrian for him as well , there's a room called 'Pearl Jam fans'.

I think we can make this easier and contribute rants that we are familar with...

I would suggest a couple categories however.....
