I have heard Come Back be compared to a 50's/60' soul song and I agree. I think Pearl Jam does a great job covering these types of tunes. I also have to admit I really liked that song Chris Daughtry sang on American idol the other night "Suspicious Minds" I think Pearl Jam could make a great cover album of these types of songs though I am sure they never will. but that being said what songs have they done that would fit this type of thing?

Last Kiss
Come Back
Little Sister
I Can't Help Falling in Love
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
Unchained Melody
any others?

Good thread.

yeah I've personally made a lot of comparisons of 'Come Back' to 50s blues.. Im into a lot of blues musicians & it captures the energy & emotion perfectly.

1) Come Back
2) Unemployable
3) I Am Mine (totally john lennon)
4) Eldery Woman Behind the Counter In A Small Town (reminds me of buddy holly)
5) Leaving Here
6) Bee Girl
7) Smile (totally Neil Young inspired)
8) Around the Bend (reminds me of a Cat Stevens type song)
9) Parachutes
10) Thumbing My Way

It all depends on which band you compare them to.. If you compare them to the Velvet Underground in the 60s, tons of songs like Satans Bed could be named.

Gremmie Out Of Control....sounds like a Frankie Avalon movie where all the 'kids' are running down to catch the high tide.

That would make a wonderful mix CD. Throw on Soldier of Love and Little Sister and you'd have a hell of a nice little mix here (though I'm not sure Unemployable fits all that well).

Come Back
Leaving Here
Soldier of Love
Last Kiss
Timeless Melody
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
Little Sister
I Can't Help Falling in Love
You'Ve Got to Hide Your Love Away
Gremmie out of Control

There have ben plenty of great suggestionsd and if you broaden it to blues then i Think most of the suggestions apply, but I think that the ones above are what fit most to what i orginally meant... in a way the songs should feel dated (i don't think something liker Smile sounds dated)

do you guys think im leaving any glaring ones out? is there a complete version of beast of burden out there if so I think it would fit.

what about these I just thought of

Last Soldier (which they really need to play sometimes) (REALLY)
Throw your Arms Around me
Don't be Shy

I knew i was going to get a post like this eventually. it was a matter of when not if.

I don't like Chris either but I thougt suspicious minds really lent itself to a rock vocal. I'd kill to hear ed nail it. it would make a much better elvis cover than little sister
