I kind of debated posting this, considering RS' 100 best guitarists was one of the worst lists ever... but eh. Good for Mike.

as far as im concerned, these people get enough praise, if not too much. Many people know Prince is great with a guitar, just look at the superbowl show
17. Izzy Stradlin however, i guess i agree with him on the list

Some of these, like Frusciante or Marr, don't make sense really. I like Brownstein being on there. I can only imagine Prince being on there because he's hardly ever seen a a guitarist.

I'd like everyone to keep in mind that the same magazine that published this list also did a list for the top 100 guitarists of all time. Mike McCready, present here, didn't make that list. But Joni Mitchell did.

As much as I love Nirvana, Kurt wasn't a good guitarist.
Otherwise, that list is pretty good. Lindsay Buckingham is definitely one of those most underrated guitarists ever. The "Go Your Own Way" solo from The Dance is mesmerizing.

what is wrong with joni mitchell? she's much more creative than mccready. but mike should have been in the top 100 for sure.

i don't know what you guys are talking about kurt is definitely great in the studio, i hear he was sloppy while singing live, but so was elliott smith... sometimes elliott couldn't even play his songs cause his hands were trembling... i think if you asked kurt to play more complex stuff he could have... i don't think great is equivalent to being able to copy stevie ray vaughn. i'd say kurt was fuckin great, i mean listen to endless nameless and then give me a list of musicians that play guitar like that... its not traditional, it may even be sloppy, but its sure as hell fuckin great

and, although it's a slightly different subject, how many people play guitar because of him?

prolly thousands... point is he's a guitarist that does great things with guitars... whether its tossing them in the air playing power chords ect. he did something great with them... therefore he is a great guitarist. if you want a skillfull guitarist they're a dime a dozen at guitar center. he's on an underrated because there's a lot of people who say "he played powerchords, i like his songs but he wasn't that good" if technicality came into it, this list should be comprised entirely of classical and flameno guitarist cause they can play the fastest with the most technical musicianship and accuracy. simplicity doesn't mean its without tact or skill
