I really don't want this to become a hit.
I don't see that happening at all.

Somebody at my job said that they heard it on a station here in Phoenix. I love Come Back, but as a hardcore fan, I would be required to hate it if it became a radio hit. I hope the song is too long for that to happen.

I'm torn. If it got super popular I would be afraid I'd get sick of it like black. But on the other hand, I have some weird desire for it to be recognized by the general public as one of the greatest songs of longing in pop music history.
hahaha i hope it becomes a huge hit. I told a college professor i was going to see them at summerfest with tom petty and he says, "pearl jam? i can understand tom petty but where has pearl jam been?" Of course it was a naive statement, but it deep down inside it pissed me off.

I think that in order to make this a hit, they'd have to cut out an entire verse or something. It's a very good song that doesn't become great until right after Eddie sings: "And it's ok." It's too slow to be the next "Last Kiss" and it's not going to find a home on modern rock stations. I think you may hear it a couple times and then it will die off. I'm telling ya...if there is hit potential on this album it is "Comatose".

People keep saying it's too long but how long was Black? And if I can bring up a longer song by another and that did quite well on the radio- Stairway to Heaven?

According to my ipod, Come Back is 5:29. Black is 5:43. Hmmm.

Black was not really a "hit." It is occasionally played still on some stations, but I don't remember it being a hit at all.

Yeah but Black had a stronger chorus, a younger sounding Ed, and the 90's nostalgia going for it. Come Back is really not that catchy. And I think that comparing this song or modern radio to Stairway to Heaven is just plain silly.

Wow. Seriously? I consider it one of their biggest hits. At least where I live, it still gets played all the time.

Just to see where you are coming from- what's your personal opinion of "Come Back"? Do you like it or dislike it?

It's one of my favorites off of the new album and i think it's an incredible song...but to me it has absolutely no chance of being a radio hit. Black can be played on a modern rock station because it sounds like a rock ballad. Come Back doesn't sound like a rock ballad until the last min and a half. I don't see it finding a niche anywhere in the modern music scene.

I'm really not making this up guys. Black was not a hit at the time. It was played, but not a lot. I remember it being the "deeper cut" that some stations would play.

Yeah, it is a slow build... Which is sad because I think if anybody with a heart heard the last minute and a half of that song, they'd immeadiately fall in love with it.
