If im missing it , please point it out. If its not on there, i find that very interesting and kind of cool.

Are you talking about the 10C release? Look at your Man of the Hour single, it also lacks any record co. stuff.

The retail version is different and will have the J/BMG/Sony stuff on it.

I figured as much. I take it then the record company gets little if any money from all the pre orders through 10club? the band gets all that?

Probably, since they're handling all distribution etc.

Sony BMG is all over the new album. It says Monkeywrench in small letters along with Write Treatage/C-Ment/Innocent Bystander etc in the little bit on the back.

This is what I think: It is kinda like a small "made up" subsidiary company that J records created so PJ can do their own thing, be separate from all the R&B garbage on that label, and also to attract other acts besides the next Justin Timberlake. This is just my guess, and I dont know what the legal ramifications are.

yea, i figured thats where the name came from..... i just keep hearing this add on air america radio for the new pearl jam album from and i quote the add:

Pearl Jam their 8th studio album from monkeywrench and J records

now i take that as monkeywrench records and J records, but maybe MW represents something else.....most likely what Happy---Dying suggested though

I think Monkeywrench is a record label owned by Pearl Jam so to speak. But Pearl Jam doesn't want the hassle nor has the resources to distribute the new cd to the market, so that's why they have this deal with J-records.

Kind of like the same deal Tool has. I think they also put their albums out on their oww label (tool/dissectional), but have a deal with volcano (also Sony/BMG) to distribute the thing world wide.

well this is making a whole lot more sense to me now, i was confused when i found out that the band had signed with j records (sony) again. now i get it.

so now the obvious next question, does this mean more side projects and more work from pearl jam? i say more of the same, maybe even longer between albums but when they're together its amazing

Well in the latets issue of Oor magazine (a Dutch music magazine) there is an interview with Eddie and he says that the deal with J is a one record thing.

He also said that they had a shitload of songs for the new album and that he spoke with Mike and Stone about releasing a disc with unreleased tracks/demos from the avocado sessions so to speak.

oh, why did i think it was a multi-album deal

i don't remember exactly when, but when ever it was that i heard that there were an albums worth of songs that didn't make this album i thought of radiohead right away.....Kid A came out and not even a year later Amnesiac dropped..... very beatles like, i can't believe that this is the end of the road for this band, but like i said before i could definitely see a long time before another recording session takes place

it sounds like PJ did what Dave Grohl did with the Foo Fighters. The artist KEEPS the masters and ownership but LICENSES the songs to a label for a set period of time. that's why Grohl moved to RCA after being with Capital after a bit. It's only a deal a powerful artist can cut with the majors.

I think it would be better to describe Monkeywrench as PJ's own imprint rather than a record label. It's not like they'll release other artists on the label.
