well, after seeing the rumor pit and who pearl jam has signed with i'm kind of curious to know to what extent the contract is. i know the benaroya disc was distributed by them, but i'm getting the hint this is a record deal for pearl jam. what does everyone think? is this another seven album, one greatest hits, and b-sides styled contract or do you think this is another one off?

i'm very curious to see how this will effect pearl jam...

*will the debut record for the label be promoted, let's say promoted more than any other pearl jam record since the mighty yield?
*will pearl jam's record sells go up with a new label, new people working for them and better promotion?
*will pearl jam make a more accesible debut record for the label? maybe more rocking and a little more "catchy"?
*will pearl jam finally do more media and press?

elaborate if you would...

I think they signed a like a two record deal. I seem them having a lot of say in how they're promoted and how they tour.

I don't see any chance in hell they would sign another 7 album contract. I would guess 3 at the most.

I really don't give a shit about PJ's sales and they probably don't care much either. I just want good music. If they released a "catchy" album just to please the new label, I'd lose alot of respect for them.

by now it should be quite obvious that there is no chance of that. they would not have signed anything if it was much more then a distrabution contract.

im so excited to hear what their next album is like

I was just about to make a thread for this... I don't know, I'd like to know more. I guess this is more than just a distribution deal? :|
I was so proud of them for being independant, but I trust them to do the right thing.

the industry doesn't work with big deals anymore,
so I think this is a three record deal max.

But I'm really excited, but I'm sure PJ did something new in this deal.
BMG distributed their benny cd, so this could mean 2 things:
-PJ is staying independent, with the help of BMG as distributor.
-PJ got signed with BMG, but PJ is in charge of what they are doing. (as always, but a little more)

What i dont get is why BMG? BMG will be merged with Sony within six months after litigation in Europe is done. Basically its the same company, different name.

Maybe that's exactly why. I don't think they really hated being with Epic, they were just in a rookie contract 12 years down the road. Now they have a veteran contract with much more control, and they're in a comfort zone. Why join a new league when you really just want to renegotiate your contract?

BTW, I think this conract is probably, as said before, a short term deal, mostly focussing on distibution which is the main purpose for a record company at this point in Pearl Jam's career. Their management has always made the best of what they had to deal with, amazingly so in many cases, so there's no way they're ina sucker deal now.
