Pearl Jam’s best drummer is an open question. Pearl Jam’s worst lyiricst is not. Ladies and gentleman, may I present to you…Matt Cameron, and the train wreck that is the lyrics to get right
Eddie has his clunky moments but by and large he is a first rate lyricist. There are quite a few songs post No Code that have excellent music that suffer in my eyes because Ed didn’t’ write the lyrics (No Way, Lowlight, Thin Air and NAIS really jump out at me. I like the lyrics to All those Yesterdays and Rival and God’s Dice bores me no matter what). But in most of those cases the lyrics are passable enough that it doesn’t ruin the song. That’s not the case with Get Right. Musically I think the song works really well. It’s not a masterpiece, but it is a nice fun, crunchy number. A nice strong, deep main riff, some nice work by Mike, a fairly infectious chorus, and even some handclapping. What's not to enjoy? Not a song to change the world, but still fun and it interjects some much needed light into an otherwise dark record. Musically I’d give the song a 3.5
But Matt…what the fuck is going on with those lyrics. They completely tank the song for me. I’ve got nothing to say about them except they really really suck. And that they ruin the song. I’d guess the song is about smoking pot, but only because of the picture in the liner notes and the shirt.

I'm with thodoks. My disdain for the second half of Riot Act is well documented, but at least songs like Help, Help is trying to be interesting. And I'm not an anti-Matt guy, as a I really like Cropduster among others. This is just... boring. It sounds like something I have heard a million times before, and a million times since. Along with Ghost and Green Disease, it's a trio of Pearl Jam at their worst.

Green Disease is meh, but Ghost is fucking awesome.

With time I've come to appreciate this song more. I love how rhythmically tricky it is (it sounds lke a straight 4/4 until the end of every line of the verses where there's two hanging beats, then it shifts into a 6/4 for the chorus, then an actual straight 4/4 for the middle 8... and because it doesn't jump out at you immediately, it's one of the best uses of mixed meters in PJ songs), and the bass line is pretty sweet.
The lyrics are fine (they're better than half of Backspacer and big chunks of ST).
Mike does a great job on this too.

I've never felt closer to Jorge about PJ than I do right now.

Replace Green Disease with Cropduster and we agree.
