Ive heard / seen on here, some people saying they are annoyed with the Petty fans, for the Petty chants, and lack of interest / respect for Pearl Jam..... And how they shouldnt treat PJ like just another opening band...

As a Sleater Kinney fan, I can say paybacks a bitch
(Yes that was me probably sporting my Show Me Your Riffs shirt at Milwaukee night 2)

I totally agree Clubber...

Its the same thing I say no matter who the opening band is... unless they totally blow, and im talking fucking up / missing notes / starting-stoping songs / long pauses between songs / lack of enthusiasm...

non of which PJ did at either PJ/Petty shows I was at, and well, I dont think theres ever been a show where SK lacked enthusiasm haha...

I just found it ironic that PJ fans bitch about people not respecting PJ as the opener, when some PJ fans are just as bad with other opening bands like SK :P

if you ask me pj was a hell of a lot better than petty at both of the milwaukee shows. with all respect to petty, he was lacking the energy that pj had and the whole damn thing was scripted. night 2 was almost identical to night 1. but still a great concert, even though pj shoudve opened imho

I wasn't at either show but they should play the same amount of time and probably take turns being the opener. I've seen Petty more than once and they were pretty much the same thing, a bunch of singles with a couple of fan favorites thrown in. Petty doesn't need to open for anyone but neither does PJ which doesn't need to be pointed out. The whole thing is a pretty cool idea and a great pairing of two legendary acts with PJ being the better one but comparing them to a true meant to be opening act like SK is ridiculous. We chant to get SK off the stage because they blow balls and most of us have seen enough of them to last of till the stars burn out.

Well Sleater Kinney's last two albums were better then Pearl Jams last three, but that is not the point. It is always rude for the fans of any particular band to disrespect the opening act, and it is embarasing as a fan to hear it happen under any context. Typically the opening act is there because the main act wants them there, and it is very low brow on the fans part to attack the opener.

I never heard a PJ or Eddie chant during an opening act, ever. There's a difference between enjoying the opening band and respecting the opening band. Although PJ fans may not always enjoy the opening act they always respect the opening act.

You are incorrect, sir.

I didn't know there were chants during Pearl Jam's set. Mostly, I'm just sick of Tom Petty.

There was a good bit of "PETTY" chants during PJs set...
BUT, there was just as many "EDDIE" chants during Pettys so...

I just found it funny that people were bitching...

Hell Ed only does pre-sets TO GET US IN OUR SEATS SO WE WATCH the opening band... instead of sitting out getting food/drinks and talking...

And anyone who says SK sucks bla bla bla...
I heard plenty of that from the Petty fans too... "These guys suck get them off the stage, lets get Petty" To them, Pearl Jam was just another stupid opening band... Infact the guy next to me night one, well on his cell phone to someone said

"YEah im at summerfest watching petty man... some band, Pearl something opened, they sucked... huh? Pearl Jam? yeah that might have been it? i dont know I just want Petty to come out"

(yes he was a total moron and Pearl Jam doesnt suck obviously...
But give opening bands their respect, INCLUDING SK!!!!!)

Anyone that has heard One Beat and The Woods and still thinks that SK sucks has absolutley no taste whatsoever.

That being said...

It's fucking ridiculously rude to chant Petty during the PJ set. I'm sure even Tom Petty himself would say that there is just no excuse for that.
