Lets face it, one day PJ will end and we rabbid fans will have a big vacuum on our hearts. Its the dark and mercyless truth, even if we have the illusion that the band could exist forever after seeing them surviving to many problems and challenges.
I guess that the end will be caused by a death of a member...but not Matt, because the band is immune to drummer problems.
What will happen to RM ? Will it be closed or will remain open and become a nostalgic forum as so many Led Zep and Who forums?
Will the band be rembered for it greatness or will fade into oblivium?
Will the new bands influenced by PJ better than Creed and Nickleback or PJ will be responsible for a legacy of darkness and shitty music?
I've never done a post with so many "wills" in my life.

this is a good one with high chances. I hope that his body will be never found, so it becomes more epic and cool

i was thinking that boom's organ will "catch on fire", then stone will throw his guitar on, then matt will toss his sticks in, then ed will throw in his guitar, his monitor and his notebook, then jeff will throw on his big bass and mike will stand on the edge of his stage, in the usual manner and play for 10 more minutes, then he will run over to the fire, throw in his guitar and they will take a bow and exit stage right.

if ed hasn't quit by now, i don't think he will. as long as vedder feels "there isn't a better bunch of guys" when he wants to create for the public, things are cool. i can't see anyone backing away. as pissed as they might get by tour's end, they'd come back after a phone call. they like each other.

i'm hoping for old age.
Be careful what you say.
I bet when the Rolling stones were 15 years old, their fans wanted them forever to be the "badasses of rock and roll". Look at them now, I mean, Keith Richards is decomposing like an eggplant under the scorching sun.
Pearl Jam is clearly showing signs of mid-age, but I don't think that'll stop them anytime soon. My bet is that the music will gradually become less aggressive until the music only appeals to people like us who will be 30's-40's (or 50's!) by then.
U2 is almost 30 years old, and the band members are only a couple years older than the PJ guys.

huh?
first off, you have no idea what you say when you say the music they make in the future will only appeal to people in their 30+ when they music they make now is appealing to that age group AND to teens. hell, i'm older than the band.
U2 doesn't compare to pj. put out some great songs but don't have the genius
the stones don't compare to pj. created classic songs but they never had it either.
maybe closest comparison would be neil young in the genius department but even that is different.
maybe if townsend hadn't burned out we might have a comparison. but we don't.
there isn't any real comparison because so many people died young. ed is what, 40? 41? historically this isn't old. he can write great epic music for 40-50 more years.
there are 4 kinds of musical geniuses.
the prodigy instrumentalist
the prodigy composer
the instrumentalist
the composer
most prodigys burn out (like physicists). but there are significant exceptions. ed appears to be one. he's getting better. he's learning more... trying more. why do i call him a prodigy in the first place? betterman is why.
so he fucked around with techno? why's he playing the strokes so much, eh? maybe he finds high-level polyphonics facinating? who the fuck knows, but i don't see it stopping. do you?
why should they suck in the future? if you've got this talent and you're over 32, you've got it for life.
