i wouldnt pay to meet the guys. i would only be interested in meeting them if it was somewhere laid back, and i wouldnt be all like "OMG IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN!!!!" at leats i hope not. i would just offer to buy whoever it was a beer, and if they declined i would say... nice meeting you and walk off. i feel like these guys deal with too many weirdos and i wouldnt want to bother them.

i thought i would do that, but instead i just stood about 8 feet away and thought about everything i wanted to say until i totally talked myself out of saying anything at all from not wanting to be annoying. even just "thanks" seemed too stupid. now i regret not approaching them. but i wouldn't pay for that chance again.. unless there was a show, too. i would pay for a show.

I went to a book signing once, where payment to meet the author was buying the author's book. I felt the author hated what he was doing. I felt that I hated what I was doing. We eyed one another and basically said a couple of stupid things, with him initiating the conversation, such as it was. I still love the author as an author, but I could have done without that ill-lubricated, forced meeting. My guess is that I will never meet any member of Pearl Jam ever. But, if by some odd chance the stars are just so and the pixie dust is flying around just so and by some astronomical oddity we meet, I would want the meeting to be organic. A natural outcropping of something else. Paying to go to a show and then by chance running into one of them and exchanging a couple of words, that's okay. Paying to "speak to the talking monkey" just holds no attraction for me. This is a value judgment, but really, really...one that applies only to me. I don't judge people who do pay to meet celebrities badly. If this type of thing is for you, more power to you. You are making an opportunity for yourself that you are comfortable with. That's great. It's just...this is not for me.

the way i interpreted this whole thing was that it was a fundraiser for jon tester, a u.s. senate candidate from montana, that members of pearl jam were going to be at. that money is going to jon tester's campaign, it's not as if it was a 'pay to meet pearl jam' sort of thing, even though i'm sure for a lot of people it turned out that way.
