I'm a big matt fan, particularly of his drumming on this tour.... but my one criticism is that he never really lets loose and opens up into a solo.

So to anyone at the recent west coast shows that saw what the tsis setlists have listed as "solos".....fill a brotha in on what went down.

The more specific, the better.

Thanks.

Aside:

The drum solo seems to segue into Jesus Christ Pose just before the rest of the band joins in to close out the song.

See LA 2, for example.

Some of them sound more like Jesus Christ Pose then others....... Its almost like the intro without the intensity, kind of slowed down.

I just watched a Soundgarden DVD from San Jose 94'. It's hard to compare the 2 after watching him on that.

While seeing it live in Cinncy... I thought he was going to let loose on it, It was really cool not expecting it.

Saw it in SD. Thought it was very cool, very nice addition to E Flow.

He kinda noodles around a lot and has bursts of fills interlaced with heavy backbeats until right before the band comes back in, then he usually drums some sort of sick beat that makes my head explode because it's smooth yet heavy. If you have any of the boots, might I recommend the one from LA 1 because that is the one that sounds closest to the intro to Jesus Christ Pose. And it's my personal favorite from the three shows I saw.

In general it just kicks ass and gives new life to a song I personally was pretty tired of after all these years.

I agree with the LA 1 statement. He hinted at it in San Diego, and LA2, but LA night one was the night that I turned around to my friend and said "HOLY SHIT he's playing Jesus Christ Pose!", and subsecuently not shut the fuck up about it for most the night...

What has bothered me with these solos though, and his drumming this tour, it has shown one thing.... dude still has his chops, so where is WMA, Who you Are, and though I don't mind the tweaked verson, In My Tree?

SF2 was CRAZY and it was JCP for sure. It was insane. He was actually laughing his ass off by the time he finished.

i got a taste of this on the San Diego boot and thought it was awesome...gives longtime fans who might be bored with Even Flow something to look forward to when the song starts

I'm happy with Even Flow either way :)

I love the drum solos! They're not too long; they showcase his talents. They're tasteful. I.e., I love 'em!

About time they let him cut loose. You could sense it all throughout Leg 1 that once the jam died down and Mike stopped soloing that he'd go nuts, but it never happened. That's awesome that he's rippin' now.

I have one of the South America '05 boots and after Mike's solo Matt starts doing this samba beat which is really cool.

I love the drum solos, especially the Jesus Christ Pose beats. I wonder if he's going to keep doing JCP or if he's going to change it up later on in the tour?
