Hey peeps

Me and another jammer friend are in the process of planning a "PJ Through The Years" Compilation DVD. It's basically going to be a look at Pearl Jam since 1990 through to now. Clips, videos, speeches, live features, classic moments, interviews etc. We are compiling it from hours and hours of VCD and DVD footage to make an approx. 3 hour DVD.

What I am asking is for your ideas on some of the best PJ moments captured on video or audio. It can be a speech, a funny clip, an interview, or even your favourite version of a song. We have a few examples so far, such as the New Jeremy from Red Rocks 1995, the stage dive from Pinkpop 1992, and some great interview footage from 1993 and 2002. Audio ideas are good too - we plan to have a photo montage with some of the best audio running over the top.

ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME!!! We can get our hands on pretty much any PJ footage/audio that is out there. It would be great for you to post them in this thread, but feel free to email them to me also.

We're also playing around with the idea of getting fans to send us their own 2 minute video/audio spill on why PJ are their favourite band etc.

THANKS GUYS!

Judd and Brendan

Playing every song in Boston during 2003.

Actually, I'm not sure how you would document that as there is not video of these shows and you can't play all 3 shows.

Maybe the speech where ed says they're gonna play all the songs?

I'll think about it and get back to you. Let me know if you're missing any shows you need.

Indio- the shoe incident

I know that show is on DVD, although I don't have it-- you could take the speech or the video of the shoes being thrown

How about "Ticketmaster Sucks" from Soldier Field in 95?
I know there is video for it (maybe not the best quality however).

How bout "stone's fault" from SVT? Good clip!

Please keep us informed on how this is going, it sounds like it's gonna be awesome and I'll definately be looking for a copy!

If you need help with anything I feel I am pretty technology proficient so I'd be glad to help (although I am in the US). If you need any shows that I have I'd be glad to help you out-- either send you a copy or send you a clip over the internet. If you're looking for a clip of the VFC finale I can probably send it to you over the Intenet (although I only have the 6 hrs on one DVD version and You're probably looking for the higher quality one).

I like the ideas so far!

I say you write pearl jam and tell them youre doing this and ask if they could please provide you with some never before seen footage. I know they wouldnt, but man, if they did, that would be so rad.

great idea, always good to see ppl are workin on fan stuff.

but some technical and legal advice...

dont put 3 hours of video on 1 DVD ... the bitrate would be ~3500kbit including audio which isnt much more than SVCD. Go for 2 discs! max 90 minutes each disc. You might also wanna do animated menus and transitions and those take another 50-200MB depending on complexity.

dont use VCD, SVCD, MPEG, AVI or even RM sources. if you put that much work into it and wanna release it on DVD, then hunt down at least 2nd Gen VHS tapes and encode them at full NTSC or PAL resolutions and high bitrates or use directly extracted clips from the existing DVDs like it was done for the Mementos Vol 1 & 2 discs.

dont use stuff from official releases like SVT. that is what the trading here is all about, keep it fan made or mix it with some mtv footage.

just some thoughts, if you need any help on encoding or authoring, let me know and i'll be happy to help out...

1992 Eds dive into the crowd at PinkPop and Interview with Ed and Jeff.
Jeremy MTV award performance.
MOW performance at Hall of Fame.
1993 MTV award speeches. I have the entire show on VHS but would love a copy on DVD/VCD
1994 SNL performance.Any audio from Atlanta
1995 Self Pollution Radio.NW speech at Melbourne.
1996 Grammy acceptance speech for STBC.
Hail Hail on Letterman.
1998 Some J files interviews
2000 Grievance Letterman
2001 Indifference with Ben Harper at Sydney

wow, that's a great project. i'm afraid i can't be of any help, i have absolutely nothing on video apart from the official stuff. i'd love to have it, and i hope it's ok that you can sell it for those who can't trade. anyway, good luck!

PS: and, yes, you should worry about legal stuff, like the credits for the images you'll be using.

definately the letterman perfromances, also eddie's "surprise" "black" rendition for dave.

before yield, they had a cool thing on mtv

also, theres a hilarious scene or some footage from an MTV news i remember seeing of them "interviewing" ed and he was drunk as can be, sitting on the floor with a coat hanger rambling about something with the most pained look on his face, as if the hangover had already come, yet he was still drinking.

tenth anniversary rendition of Crown of Thorns

each music video, yes trite, but essential

grammy speeches, rock n' roll hall of fame speeches, mtv performances (especially neil young, ritfw)

GREAT IDEA guys, can't WAIT to view it. thanks for putting your time and energy into it
