The outtakes on Lost Dogs are really good, so why were they cut?
Oceans over of Yellow Ledbetter?
I'm Open over of Dead Man?
Everything on Binaural over Sad?
What about Fatal?
In the Moonlight?
Hard to Imagine?
Education?
Dirty Frank?
And many more

Okay, what on Binaural is better than Sad?
Certinaly not Nothing as it Seems or Light Years, and those were the singles. I really like Binaural, but I don't love it like I love other PJ albums. On the other hand, I really love Sad.

I think Yellow Ledbetter may have been recorded after ten (from the sessions with the rerecorded even flow), but I'm not sure
You're pretty much on with Sad. I'm even more disappointed that they went with light years instead of puzzles and games

its just all a matter of what they thought fit the mood of the record, as well as my off the wall opinion that they were leaving off songs they could be big hits if they became singles because they still werent ready to take the chance of being big again. but mostly i would say its just about what they think the flow of the album should be.

Maybe instead of everyone saying which song should or shouldnt be on a lbum, how aboot the band just makes LONGER records..whats wrong with a double album or 2 ? id like to see this already , they certainly havethe material...maybe thier tenth album will be a double ..call it
5 Vs 5

I think a double album would be a bad idea, especially for Pearl Jam. I like there system of 12 song albums and some B-Sides (Now if we could only get some of them for Avo). I think Riot Act is too long.
Oceans is excellent on Ten.
Sad should have been on Binaural
HTI and Education would be all right on an album but they are better B-Sides
But In the Moonlight and Dirty Frank are average B-Sides and have no place on any album

maybe PJ was thinking ahead of their time and putting a few greats on an album and saving others for Lost Dogs so everybody who listens to PJ would buy both instead of having one great Album and a shitty compilation of songs that didnt make it and nobody cares to hear,... or they just didnt want to make a record so great that they could never make a better,... or they fucked up

The outtakes on Lost Dogs are really good, so why were they cut? Oceans over of Yellow Ledbetter? Yellow Ledbetter was an unfinished thought (a riff with embryonic lyrics) at the time Ten was released. Strangely, they ended up electing to release the song without working on the lyrics any more. Oceans on the other hand, was a completed song, as underrated as Ledbetter is overrated.
I'm Open over of Dead Man? Dead Man was written for a film soundtrack, and would have been out of place on No Code. Its perfect place was as a b-side.
Everything on Binaural over Sad? Agreed there.
What about Fatal? In the Moonlight? I could take 'em or leave 'em in relation to Binaural. That whole album could be scrapped and reconstructed in any number of ways to improve what was released.
Hard to Imagine? If HTI had been released on Vs. or Vitalogy, it would have been "that boring slow song that goes nowhere" instead of "that awesome rarity that they never play". Half of the "greatness" of that song is the mystique of it. If it were on an album, that part would be gone.
Education? Same as the other Binaural outtakes. Better than a lot of the album, but I think the track choices for that album were a train wreck from top to bottom, so pretty much any shuffling is an improvement, AFAIC.
Dirty Frank? Recorded six months after Ten was completed, it had nowhere to go but a b-side. Worked well there. And many more
Any ideas?
Ideas in bold above.

I agree with nearly all your thoughts here. I do think Alone (which wasn't mentioned in the original post), would have fit right in on either Ten or Vs.
